Hi Guys,

I am in serious need of a new phone. Mine is broken and I have R1000 to spend on a 'new' one.

I would like to go the Android route.

I have found a second hand LG Optimus One, going for R1000 with some heavy scratches on the body and 3 months Vodacom warranty remaining, including the box, accessories and original purchase slip.

Is this worth it, considering I could get a new one for R1629 from Vodacom Online? I don't have the extra R629 so it is either this or go for an new Vodafone 858 for R999, which is, AFAIK, not as good as the Optimus One.

What is your opinion? Could you suggest any other phones, either second hand or new? My only concern with going second hand is battery life and warranty, cosmetic things like scratches etc do not bother me too much as I generally add my own in the first few weeks of ownership... :D

Many thanks in advance.. :)

I have also found a Samsung Galaxy S550 for R1000, specs seem similar via GsmArena comparison (vs. p500) 16m colors over 256k smaller screen though, lesser battery.. Looks worse. OS v 2.2 vs. 2.3 Which would you choose?

There's not much in it between all these low-end options so I'd just go for whiever you can get New within budget.
