Picanto engine lights

well they did reassemble the whole loom story;

presumably they saw something, who what, I honestly dont know,

will keep you guys updated, Ill probably need an explanation whatever bullsh@t story they come with.....
Still not repaired?

Still not repaired?

Yip, not repaired, and kia not really able to tell me what's wrong! Its like nobody knows what's happened here, i mean if its the ecu then a swap should work, no feedback and updates so far from them.

Mailed the Guy 3 times all he said is a very generic "electrical" problem, no communication otherwise,
Had my car this whole week, and over long weekend,

Asked a forumite what should i do next, says wait and see, I've been stressed out so much becuse of this, as i need a car to do my job, about to get canned becuse its in the garage for so long....

Dont know what my options are regarding just taking the car out of kia, or complaining on hellopeter or to the operations manager of kia sa?

The biggest problem with taking it out of Kia and complaining on Hello Peter, is that you are going backwards, and still not getting it fixed.

Your only hope this minute is to hope that Kia fixes it.

I agree with you fazda,
Problem is how long? And what's the damage?

Very little feedback from them! I have no idea what they doing; what they found and most importantly for me what will all this cost?

At this stage I'm looking at weekly car rental as i can't go on like this....

LOL, these "mechanics", "auto electricians" and "experts" always amaze me.

A petrol engine operates on 3 principles, fuel spark and air.
Air is static, so as long as the intake has no obstructions and there is no mechanical damage, all is well.
Fuel is easy to measure with a fuel pressure tester (assume the injectors are working)
Spark is also simple to test (Spark plug on each plug)

If they are all ok, then check that the engine is mechanically sound. Meaning are all the pulleys, etc. lined up correctly and etc. Test the engine compression using a compression tester.

If that is all fine I would check to determine that the spark is being fired at the correct time in respect to the crank position using a timing light.

If it is the "electrical system" then spark will probably not work (and possible fuel either).
Which just simply means that somewhere one of the main components are not functioning fully so that the spark is fired.

Components to check: Immobiliser is definitely one because they typically just prevent the spark from firing.
ECU
Crank shaft position sensor
Air mass sensor (if the car uses the air mass method) OR vacuum sensor, air temperature sensor and throttle position sensor (if the car is using the speed density method)
Most of these sensors are trivial to test btw.
If the car is based on the speed density method I would also ensure the vacuum sensor pipe has no leaks.

Those are the critical sensors and without them the ECU will simply be unable to fuel and spark accurately.
In case of the crankshaft position sensor, the spark won't fire at all.

This isn't rocket science, you start with one component and test that it is within specification and move on to the next.

But for some reason 99% of the "mechanics" we have out there got their jobs by being unemployable in every other profession and resort to replacing components on suggestions and whims rather than empirical testing. *sigh*

/offers eg2025 a box of matches.

Thanks ill need it, insurance claim anyone:p

As far as i know, they tested all this,
They say they tested all these diffrent things,

Crank sensor,fuel pump,and belts,

They pulled apart all my wiring looking for a issue, back traced the wiring all 100%

One thing they did mention is there's a lot of sh@t inside the tank, don't know if that mean anything?

What can i say they had my car for over 2 weeks now once kia and auto electricians.

I think if it was something common they'd fix it by now,

Seems i have something very unusual as nobody can figure it out,

Hopefully ill have answers soon.
As ubering and bumming lifts to get to work isn't nice

My fathers car came new from the factory with dirt in the tank, car had to be sent back and they had to clean it out cause it was causing issues with the engine. If the engine is at least turning over then maybe this could be the problem.

Just spitbowling here, so don't know for sure but did refuel at a diffrent petrol station, than what i normally do,

Could this be anything?
At this point anything possible, i mean not even kia themselves can tell me what's wrong here,

Who knows. Maybe i have the only picanto in the world like this,

Well its possible that the dirt in the tank could have blocked the fuel pump or filter, this may have caused the low pressure error code you got. I would have them start there and confirm that fuel is getting through properly and at the right pressure.

Could it even be something as simple as putting the wrong fuel in? I know most petrol engines don't enjoy diesel in the tank.

I aint a blond you know;)

religiously I stand outside the car when I refuel always;
and I am sure I put in 93 petrol into the car; still even got the receipt for that;

but could it be that the petrol is bad quality? Hmm now you ask me; was at a BP in grosvendor crossing and Ive seen many refuel there;
this is the only thing It could potentially be; but nobody can advise me;

anyway all; thought Id share an update from the kia customer service I contacted online;
I saw they dont even respond to queries on hellopeter; and I though to go through their official website and post exactly my issue;
(if I dont get any response? still not sure what to do next)

here is the copy and pasted reply; ( just replaced my name and the mechanics name with xxxyyzzz);)

Good day xxxyyyzzz

Kindly note that Auto Electrician has been contacted to advise on the turn around time for the wiring repair and they were unable to provide us with the turn around time.
Please note that xxxyyyzzz did however request that the repairs be treated as a matter of agency.

Kindly note that we will follow up on this matter on your behalf.

Kind regards

kia customer services

not sure what exactly to make of this?
I dropped my car off on the 3rd of august, and almost 2 weeks Ive not heard anything, no reports on what is the problem, no reports on how they intend to fix it;
and the guy everytime I speak to him is very evasive and not answering my questions;

Ive not gotten a quote or an idea of what exactly is the problem; they say they cant connect the diagnostic machine of theirs and get the codes;
pure BS as I was able to with my el-chepo ELM327, they did though ask for an authorization for R3500 but Im not sure what this is for, no quote was presented to me;

so what they trying to do here? I have not a clue;

anybody ever experience this before with their car? same dealer (kia edenvale) seems hellopeter is rife with complaints that not answered about them;

what suggestions are open to me? can I rock up and ask where is my car and take it back and find somebody who I can get proper updates from?
(if I even know what is the problem);

whats my next option available to me?

I aint a blond you know;)

Nor am I, but there was one occasion where I got a tank full of diesel - they filled the petrol bowser with diesel by mistake... Must have cost them a fortune, but they paid for it to be sorted out, and not just for me, but for many, many others too (it was the One Stop at Cato Ridge on the N3, and they pump a lot of fuel there).

Contact the Dealer Principle directly and involve Kia South Africa.

well now that you mention this;
I did contact KIA Virtual Dealership – General Manager;

funny story this;
told him my story; hell even asked if I can get a courtesy car while Im at it;

guess what?

got a bounce back with his out of office;
:D:D:D

Thank you for your message. I am currently out the office, with limited access to email.

I will be returning on Tuesday 25 August 2015.

what now? how do I find the dealer principle in RSA?
should I take this further? is it worth going hole hog and escalating to ombudsman?
I mean they themselves are stumped; how and why still to understand;

maybe I win a prize the only picanto in the world that dies and no way to get it going:D
do I win a stuffed animal?

how could I prove that? how would I discover that was the case here?
I mean I brought via card and I remeber the time as I input that into my fuelly app;

its an option granted; but how to find that out?
