Mass Graves of Residential School Children Identified – Independent Inquiry Launched

We are gathered today to publicly disclose the location of twenty eight mass graves of children who died in Indian Residential Schools across Canada , and to announce the formation of an independent, non-governmental inquiry into the death and disappearance of children in these schools.

We estimate that there are hundreds, and possibly thousands, of children buried in these grave sites alone.

The Catholic, Anglican and United Church , and the government of Canada, operated the schools and hospitals where these mass graves are located. We therefore hold these institutions and their officers legally responsible and liable for the deaths of these children.

Let them dig the bodies up first, ascertain the causes of death - probably the same as per population in that area and then we'll talk.

Most likely those children died of the same illnesses that killed their non-mission staying compatriots. White man's illnesses brought much suffering
to native Americans. At the same time overcrowding in schools could contribute to spread of epidemics of diarrhoeal and respiratory infections
but those were just the times back then - no antibiotics. Plus consider where those children would have been if not in orphanages, out on the street or
prey to death squads.

He didn't answer my question, he responded to it - and he added more about what missionaries may, or may not, have done. I have not had an answer about how missisionaries 'forced' people to do things.

Perhaps Laanie will provide the answer but I am guessing not.

Here are some more people getting "protection" from missionaries:

The Goa Inquisition, was established in 1560 by Portuguese missionaries. It was aimed primarily at Hindus and wayward new converts and by the time it was suppressed in 1774, the inquisition had had thousands of Hindus tortured and executed by burning.

Just emotional vitriol with no real science to back it up, nor to compare it to non-ecclesiastic courts. So just hearsay and ravings of some anti-church demagogue.

So this academic with degrees in history, sociology and general sciences including chiropracty (since he doesn't like that either) has written a well researched, peer reviewed scientific paper for one of the leading historical journals.
Oh - he wrote a sensationalist novel? No matter, what he writes must be true.
