Pillows

I have a cushion which I use behind my back in my wheelchair, which is also made of pieces of foam. It's over 20 years old now and still as comfortable as the day I took it off my grandmother's couch.

Stupid question, but what happens with your husband's allergy? Sinuses, or what?

Ah, so Xbox is for men and Playstation for chicks.
Go post that in the console section. ;)

Never said that!!!!!!! Mine is the playstation2 and his is the Xbox. And soon we will have a PS3 and then the war will start:D

he gets asthma

and my pillow was also handed down by some family member

They dont make feather pillows the way they used to I had to replace my fav pillow recently after many years service and have been struggling to find one that doesnt feel as if it stuffed with hay! I used to keep a spare pillow to restuff my old pillows with when they started going pap, but just cant find a nice comfy one. MHO is that once you find a nice comfy feather pillow you never leave it until it leaves you.

Get yourself pure goosedown pillows not a mixture of feathers and down. And if your like most sleepers on the forum where there's a flood of drool on the floor next to your bed in the mornings, just get a bucket.
Goosedown pillows last forever. Just get decent cotton covers so down can breathe and wash them once in a while.

Well, I've scanned through about 2 years worth of posts and I did not see this topic, so now I'm bringing it up.

I have two questions:
1.) Would you recommend buying a pillow protector?
2.) How often do you buy new pillows?

Reason I'm asking is this...
I have brittle bones. My spine is not straight. As a result, I am quite hard on my pillows. I've found that the best way to sleep is lying on top of the pillow (which is a feather pillow) as this takes the pressure off my back. If I don't do this, usually, I don't sleep well at all.
Anyway, I woke up at about 3am this morning to find my pillowcase very wet. It seems that I drool as I sleep. :o ... I don't remember it being as bad as recently. I also have a chronic post nasal drip, which was even sorted a few months ago by flushing the sinuses, but it just came back.
I just got to thinking ... what kind of effect could all my saliva be having on the feathers in my neck pillow?
I hate to think of it, but could it lead to some kind of bacterial growth within my pillow  which I am then inhaling again which is preventing me from getting better?

Amazing what one thinks about at 3am ... Any thoughts, please?

I bought two pillows every year. One is bamboo pillow for hot weather and the other one is Inflatable Pillow for winter.

With a sinus problem you shouldn't sleep on or with feathers and your pillowcases should be washed once a week and hung in sunshine.
(sunshine kills/germs bugs sharp-sharp)

To help with the drooling, buy thick winters cotton pillow covers, and remember you can always cover your pillow with two pillow covers to
improve protecting the pillow and to improve absorbing of night sweats/drools lol

Some of our beds have feather pillows and duvet, every summer I hang them out in direct sunshine for two days, before putting them away for
use the next winter.

(when you have the flu - change your pillow cover every day to prevent re infecting yourself from your pillow.)

I buy new pillows almost yearly, depending on the state they're in and I put the old ones in large old Mr Prices bags on recycling day (blackbag day) for the poor.

If you are very heavy on pillows, replace them yearly.

Your sleeptime is very important, it's when your body heals and rejuvenates, so if I was you, I would make effort and ensure that your bed & pillows are good to go, and in winter, your bed should be a warm, soft, comfortable place to enjoy.
