Pizza! Pizza! Pizza!

Had a pizza from Smack Pizza (Rivonia) - Buzz Kill, was really good
That was the first pizza I had upon moving to Joburg. I love Smack's Pizza. How often do you get sourdough coal fired pizza as a takeaway (or sit in if you prefer)?

In other news, after 7ish months of living here I finally figured out what I could use a stand for my Milex pizza oven without buying or making some sort of metal table. In Durban I was using concrete outdoor furniture.

Literally put it on top of my Weber and wedged it against a brick wall. The hole on the left of the handle is where my probe grommet goes, I was cleaning it after the pulled pork smoke. Haven't made dough yet for proper pizza so here is a pic of a premade 3 cheeses base with my pulled pork added as well as jalapenos and mushrooms.

Damn. That looks so good.
Knocking out some dough tonight for Pizzas tomorrow. Sadly no pulled pork.

Thanks it was a nice cook last weekend, I must say it seems the Joburg altitude oxygen content affects smoking? In Durban using the same Weber and the same Etosha Triquettes it was a lot harder to maintain 225-250F, here I had to have a lot more bottom vent open and it did not run away but that is a post for the smoking thread.

These pizzas were from PnP actually, not bad from their stone baked fresh range 2 for R140 I think. So as the Milex burns super hot I preheated to 400C at the back half of the stone then switched off the burner and launched to allow the base to cook nicely for a bit. Then low burner and rotating often. The first one I did not do that and it was a bit more charred

Side note the Temu cover kept the oven nice and clean for 7 months on the stoep :)

Always a matter of experimenting and figuring things out which is half the fun for me. Still looks great.

Your dough isn't lekker, it's hasn't rising at all... she dead mate 🧟‍♂️

The heat is fine, let it blast, it literally takes a minute to make one, don't walk away and leave it.

here you go, follow to a tee and all will be well. And I see Checkers is now selling 00 flour.

Thanks, this was definitely an experiment to see how well premade pizzas could be prepared in this oven as this style of pizza doesn't require the heat and fast cooking time of a Neapolitan style pizza. Mostly because our regular electric oven's grill element doesn't work :)

Looking forward to pics of your pizzas tomorrow night!

It occurred to me that I haven’t used mine outdoors yet. I wonder how it will cope with PE wind.

I noticed the other day the pizza oven doesn’t seem to be listed on their site anymore.

Interesting, maybe they only ordered like one container from China? At least there are quite a few other local options available now for people without Ooni money.

I saw this Alva instore at a PnP Hyper Northgate the other day for R3800 not a bad price I think?

Although the one Takealot reviewer is not happy

That being said my Milex also has some patina at the back where the flame hits the ceiling directly but at these temps I would say that is to be expected.

Regarding the wind someone on here does use plywood I think to shield their Ooni from the wind, I've been off the forum for a few months so apologies that I cant remember who :)

EDIT: It was @Paul Kemp

Stumbled upon another local gas oven option, not yet launched but taking pre-orders. Looks decent.

There is a pizza place in Durban that uses one of their earlier ovens it seemed to perform well. I did enquire with Oliver's Craft last year regarding a single pizza oven but the pricing of making it made it only slightly cheaper than going for their double oven. Alas I did not have space for the double and went with the Milex.

Oliver's Craft ovens looks absolutely amazing though and if I had the space I would pick that new Inferno model over like a 16" Ooni model for example especially considering the accessories that you get with it

Haven’t needed a wind shield since @bwana confirmed it was safe to do indoors.

Wait, I missed this. Last I saw in this thread was yellow flame = bad.
Exactly what I thought but a few of us are now doing it. Well ventilated of course but it seems like the Co2 levels aren’t high enough to cause any issues. I do it in the garage.
Should probably get a little portable meter to confirm it but based on the many times I’ve done it, non-issue.

Get one of these ones, they seem amazing. YouTube has lots of reviews.
If I had boobs maybe someone would buy one for me, alas I'm stuck without both...

A family member has one which I've used before I got the Milex. The G3 does work, but the Milex kicks it into the corner.
