Try something unusual if you like Banana. Put some watermelon , mango slices or peach slices. Top it with custard and drizzle it with blueberry sauce.

I have the Pizza braai. The normal one, not the xl. The fire on top can make it very very hot, be carefull. I scrape some coals under the bottom otherwise my pizza dont cook well. It does not retain heat that long, thus keep a fire at a steady pace going. I have an infrared thermometer which helped a lot. Judging the temp didn't work out so well.
I think it is good for camping.

I'm looking at getting a braai-type pizza oven (Ooni is way out of budget).
Trying to understand the pros / cons between the one you put on top of coals vs the one you put below the coals.
Any views?

The Alva Gas pizza oven is R4000 at Builders right now not too much more than the Pizza Braai but I guess it depends on what style of pizza you like

That looks pretty decent - not too keen about the control on the back though.

In my mind, these Pizza Braai type ovens are more portable (I don't also have to take a gas bottle)
You get carrying bags for the gas ones and you don't have to carry wood, charcoal, and firelighters :)

(I don't have a bag for mine because it basically lives in the kitchen.)

But I can also easily get wood, charcoal and firelighters wherever I'm travelling. Not so with a gas bottle

That's probably best if a 2kg gas cylinder is a deal breaker - I thought it was budget holding you back from gas.

I look forward to seeing the results.

Pizza making isn’t easily portable anyway. Correct me if I’m wrong but the pizza braai or other braai top pizza makers don’t allow for a flame over the top of the pizza. That and heat control are important parts of cooking a pizza which don’t seem easily doable with the braai top versions.

The Pizza Braai in particular only has flame on the top.
Part of my question was whether this was better than having flame beneath.
In terms of temperature control - could probably shift the coals/wood on or off (they also sell a thermometer for the unit).
I'd assume this is how a normal wood burning pizza oven is operated?

Well that makes a difference. Looking at them online could not make out that it allows the flame to pass over the pizza.
I suppose like anything worth doing a little effort and method building is part of the fun.
