Plasma problem (ps50c430) - jumping pink pixels

Ja but the CPA is not an instant solution. It can still take mnths for a resolution while broken plasma gathers dust. I think I'll cancel......

I am actually thinking it's Samsung in general, took back three of their LCD monitors last year this time, all with multicoloured lines running the length and breadth of the screens. How many people did actually end up buying the TV's PP recommended?

To pp defense. When the plasma tv doesn't have any problems it is a far superior buy cost wise and the quality that comes with it in terms of picture.

I just pray and hope that this tv I buy now just works from out of the box with no problems. Can't bear to take back yet another tv.

Me for one, but i also read other forums before buying and no one really complained about these plasma's, it seems like now all of the sudden they are all giving problems, i dont know, if its luck of the draw then South Africa or rather the guys on this forum has had a real bad draw...

Did you eventually get it sorted out? As I said I've got a feeling it's Samsung but that's cause I was monitorless for a month and a half. Eventually the retailer was like next time your monitor breaks bring it to us and choose any other model.

ja, 160km with numerous headaches and countless phone calls later i eventually got things sorted out, each night i pray that i never have to go through that exercise again, I’m a huge cricket supporter, i missed half the CWC and Super15 games, i was not a happy oak, each time my GF tells me to go and fetch the 74cm (that’s stuffed in the attic), then im like, nooo, its Samsung, they will probably have it sorted out in this week….

Ricoza - Go onto Samsung website www.samsung.co.za, then go to "contact us". Write up your problem and submit. Samsung will contact you in regarding the problem and samsung will arrange a tech to come see your TV.

+1, you'll get a reply within 1/2 days.

wonder where the defender of Samsung is today  :p

Not sure what you mean by this? Please elaborate.

How many people did actually end up buying the TV's PP recommended?

Plenty, seems 95% are still happy with their purchase?

Let's not forget LCD's that have been returned for back-light bleed, source confusion, etc..

Seriously, you fanboi's will jump at any opportunity to blow these problems out of proportion. Fact is there will be a few bad apples, if you get one then bad luck, phone Samsung and hassle their repair agents until yours is swapped out/fixed.

I went through 5 plasmas over the past three weeks. Each buzzed above normal tv volume and the one even had a faulty panel.

Doubt this, honestly think you're exaggerating, and I honestly think every other plasma owner who's had bad buzz will agree with me. Would have loved to have heard an audio recording, or better yet seen/heard myself. Don't get me wrong, I can understand buzzing without any volume, just not with "normal" TV volume.

Anyway, I hope your LCD sorts out all your problems. Perhaps you should have told us what your maximum budget was in the beginning? No point going for something half the price when you can afford something double the price - it will be better.

Knew he couldn’t be far
But Ja PP, all of us just bought the "bad apple", looks like we are all a real unlucky bunch

Well yes, unfortunate as it is, unless you're saying they're all tainted?

Gosh, imagine if everyone judged LG based on Hello Peter's LG listings - they wouldn't have a single sale! See where I'm going here as to how you're blowing threads like this out of proportion?

But I am more interested in your comment "defender of Samsung" - please elaborate. Otherwise please don't troll like that.

FWIW, been abusing my plasma for the past 5 months, probably 8 hours TV a day on average. Not a single problem. Not a second's worth of IR. Maybe it was from a previous "batch" though. ;)

I hope I don't get problems with my P50C430 I just bought from cats, else I'm going to introduce my baseball bat to PP.

/goes looking for said bat

Well it’s starting to seem like it yes

The last time I looked this was a thread for a broken samsung??

Each time someone says anything bad about Samsung you jump to the rescue, how did you even know I was talking about you if you knew it was not true?

Then Samsung should investigate and call the bad batch back

And still, bad batch or not, it’s no excuse for the way Samsung handled the whole situation

In your mind maybe.

The last time I looked this was a thread for a broken samsung??

Which is no bearing on the brand/quality of the brand, which is what you take every broken Samsung thread to be. Hence my analogy.

Each time someone says anything bad about Samsung you jump to the rescue, how did you even know I was talking about you if you knew it was not true?

No I don't, simply giving my personal account. Am I that influential you regard it as fact? Gee thanks. And it's not hard to know you were talking about me.

Then Samsung should investigate and call the bad batch back

And still, bad batch or not, it’s no excuse for the way Samsung handled the whole situation

Bad batch where?

No excuse how they handled your situation? Perhaps. But perhaps your beef is with their repair agents, who are separate companies?

Why not list the model numbers of all the "bad apple" plasma's - Not the shortened version, but the manufactured batch numbers. Then see if there are any similarities.

I have the Samsung Plasma PS42C450 for about a year now and I'm very happy with it - the LG's couldn't compete on a price and function offering at the time. Haven't had any major problems, I did notice buzz at times, but luckily the buzz disappeared else I would have claimed on warranty (I think buzz maybe related to very bright scenes - not sure).
FWIW: I've also upgraded firmware a couple of times and I think one of the latest firmware (V1023) descriptions says improve PDP 50"UTP module reddish picture (red dot) issue.

The only issue I have is that the inbuilt mediaplayer doesn't play mkv files yet - I wasn't expecting it to and I'm hoping that the next firmware upgrade will sort it out.

I recently bought a 23" (BX2331) Samsung LED LCD monitor and have not had any problems with it yet (fingers crossed).

On the other hand my father-in-law's LG plasma is still going strong after 5yrs - hope my Sammy lasts that long at least.

(My view is that the LG TV audio quality is better than Samsung and Samsung's video quality is better than LG for comparable models)

Have you tried MKV's smaller than 4GB from a FAT32 drive?

I have a 50" LG Plasma in my TV room for a year without any problems.
The picture quality on the LG is better than my 40" Sony Full HD that I bought from Makro nearly 3 years ago when DSTV had the special when HD started.
HD is also great on the LG Plasma, I'm not a LG fan I wanted a Panasonic but I only had around R10,0000 and decided to buy the LG I just couldn't handle the SD picture quality of my Sony LCD one more day it's fine in the bedroom and HD is great, I fall asleep quickly anyway, I just can't watch TV in bed.
I had problems with every Samsung product I every bought, I still have a Samsung HDD DVD recorder with software bugs that I packed away. The only Samsung product
that never gave me any problems is a 74" Flat Screen TV that I have in a spare bedroom.
I will never buy any Samsung product ever again not even a Fridge.
