:confused:I have a a Samsung LED tv bought in Dec 2009 and whilst it has a usb port it is described as for technical purpose only.Does anyone out there know of any way I can connect a USB drive and play videos?

Most TV's can only access FAT32 hard drives. Plug the USB drive into a Windows PC and right click the drive. Select properties and see if the drive is NTFS or FAT32 partition. If it is NTFS then this is probably the reason. You can either format the drive to FAT32 or use partitioning tools to convert it. Just note that the maximum file size on FAT32 is ~4GB, so HD movies won't work. In that case you need a Media Player where you can plug the USB hard drive into. Your TV will also only support certain codecs/formats.

that's odd - i just plug my USB drive in and it shows up. is you TV a "smart TV"?

Thanks guys, it's not a smart Tv so I will look at Aves suggestion of an Android tv player.

if you decide on going that route, you can look at an air mouse for a remote.
also check out some of the chinese sellers on ebay- they usually offer free shipping

What format is the movie?they only play certain formats.my dads 32 inch d550 plays movies from a flashdrive/over a network cable no problem.

Some Samsung LED TVs can't play video over USB only play music and view pictures.

why do you say that? you need to still get a cover, the cables etc- will end up costing twice as much.

You don't really need a cover. The cables? He'd need an HDMI cable anyway. The only other cable is a power cable and he can use a regular microUSB charger for that.

On the other hand, mine has been switching off during fullHD playback so maybe it's not the best solution.

R260 from RS South Africa (no import tax). They deliver much quicker already. R58 for a cover and any old micro usb charger will do.

You don't even need a cover. And it runs proper Linux, not Android.

You can use any USB, I use a 8gb one with no hassles
It will not work with a USB drive

You will have problems playing any movies over 1,8gb.

The MK802 ships with all cables included as well as the cover. It also allows you to boot up in any linux os and its got a gig of ram and a 1 - 1.5 Ghz processor

When did you buy yours?
The PI has composite cables right? (red yellow white) I don't have an hdmi imput, so this may be a good option.
