Playing video files off usb flash drive

When did you buy yours?
The PI has composite cables right? (red yellow white) I don't have an hdmi imput, so this may be a good option.

November last year. Even got the 512MB version.

My Samsung series 8 will play AVI, MKV, MP4, FLV and VOB video files. The maximum USB size is 32Gb, so if you use a 64Gb stick, partition it to 2 x 32gb. Same with an external HDD. It does not matter if it is formatted FAT32 or NTFS. What I do is plug a switchable 10 port USB hub into the TV and just switch on the ports where USB sticks are plugged in. MakeMKV will rip a blu-ray movie to about a 16Gb file, so you need an NTFS formatted stick for such a large file
