Please help me with my addiction

What could be so stressful at 22? What kind of work do you do?

The following as well as honesty with my family and real friends as well as support from them got me off crack about 17 years or so ago.

The other thing to remember is to stop bull ****ting yourself because you can not bull **** yourself.

A mantra for daily choices (Afrog).
Positive 3 outta 5 and it's a good choice.

Alive (does the choice make you feel alive).
Feel (how does it make you feel).
Real (will the choice give you a real reward or is the reward an illusion).
Others (how will it affect others).
Goals (does the choice help you fulfil your goals).

Well... I have an addictive personality and since most of my family/friends are in the medical profession I was exposed to drugs from an early age.

I suppose it became a sort of scapegoat for me to just pop a pill/inject myself with some sort of opiate whenever I felt a little down or had a headache or menstrual cramps. It gradually progressed to the point where I got this job and it was a bit stressful so i began to up my doses to compensate.

To the people who are calling this fake, I just hope that you never have to end up in a situation like what I am in now.

Fake or not, I don't believe that in today's age anyone can ignore a cry for help. Even if it turns out to be fake. You have a good thing going with your employer and, being only 22, you have your whole life ahead of you. I truly hope you are able to get rid of this monkey on your back and make the most of the opportunities you have been given. A lot of people would kill to have a job at a big financial institution.

I love this!

I am slightly concerned looking at the particular medications named and more importantly that you have concerns arising as you "realised now that this is affecting my health pretty badly after doing it for a year" that you may also have an underlying trauma and are evading speaking to a person trained in psychology by placing a dependence on "medical" answers.

You shouldn't be dependent on a doctor for physiological solutions to psychological issues. There is a lot of overlap and any good physician has a touch to deal with things, but as does any religious minister.
Ask the company to arrange for you to see a shrink for the occupational stress. Auditing is a stressful job - it should be - and auditors of whatever scope should have tools to deal with stress and are remunerated in part for the stress. Also schedule in a weekend away - the company might need you there during work time but the ability to take a long weekend shouldn't be a problem - and figure some **** out. Figure out what support you need to deal with what issue.

Your doctor is a moron. As has been mentioned get yourself a new doctor.

These drugs are extremely hard to stop using.

I was on Venlor a couple of years back and used Prozac to tamper off from the Venlor. The withdrawal effects from Prozac are not as bad as that of Venlor.

I have heard of some people using Prozac to tamper off lorazepam you can also google this.

I would strongly suggest getting a new doctor and letting the doctor help you tamper off from the drugs you are taking.

Well they'll then be able to offer advice as well as support. Unless there are some issues there as well

Where's that Russell Brand thread.

You'll basically have to join a support group. Few people can do it alone. Get a new boyfriend. You're a women ... women can find boyfriends at the drop of a hat. It doesn't really work so easily the other way around. At least not for me.

Tell us about the stress you experience at work.

Join a support group, and get a boyfriend?

What in the actual ****, dude...

As Alan has mentioned, you need to want to get off the drugs (let's assume as much due to the thread), but most importantly, you need to do it damned carefully, under the supervision of someone who knows exactly what they are doing.

Considering the drugs involved here this seems like a go big or go home scenario. Seek proper professional help beyond the pay grade of your local GP, create a large support group by informing trusted friends and family, take time off work, even go into rehab if advised too and nail this thing.. Make it your primary/sole goal and direct all your energies to it for the next few months.

Rather than doing it yourself or under the guidance of a GP while attempting to carry on as normal. It will most likely be doomed to fail and you'll end up going the route mentioned above anyway.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I've booked myself in to a local rehab clinic after talking to my boss and I spoke to my family. They were supportive and understanding and offered me a lot of assistance.

Probably a very good list of choices to start this with.

A few other things I would like to suggest and just mention.

You need to avoid triggers. These may seem like physical things (in fact several of the rehabs I was in always said to avoid the 3 p's, People, places and paraphernalia) but I came to realise that these were simply excuses I would use to relapse, the triggers were all in my head, I was the one aiming and pulling).
The very last time I saw crack it was offered to me, it was put in my hand and the guy whipped out a pipe. I laughed and gave it back. The laugh was from me actually sitting in the control room that is my mind and watching all the switches flip in all the most predictable ways. I calmly flipped them back one at a time and got the hell out of the situation before I got the better of myself.

It only takes about 5 minutes for the craving to go away, it may seem forever but it is only 5 minutes that you need to be on your guard against yourself, it is in those 5 minutes that you will take the subconscious decision to use again and decide if you will or will not act on it.
This will happen several times a day in the beginning, it will gradually slow down but does not really ever stop.

Do not substitute with cigarettes. If you are a smoker do your best not to smoke more than you usually do because that will become a habit and you will end up smoking even more, especially at rehab. There is nothing to do there between sessions but sit and talk to other users or sit and smoke.
Same goes for ethanol.

Some tips on the rehab thing:

Take plenty 1 person entertainment and a pack of cards or similar for socialising is not a bad idea either.

The people you meet there are either just doing their jobs or coping with similar issues as you are.
They are not your friends and they do not care for you, at most you are entertainment to them or part of the job.

The only person that matters is you and the only advice and knowledge you should leave with is what you will need when you get back into the real world.

An addictive personality refers to a particular set of personality traits that make an individual predisposed to addictions. ...

Also since I googled that for you...

sarcasm

the use of irony to mock or convey contempt...
