The OP's doctor, the guy that told her to just quit, he should have his license revoked or at the least be given a warning from the SA Medical and Dental Council.
What reckless advice is this? These drugs should be weened off.
Considering the possible life threatening complications I wouldn't call it advice.
Unfortunately alot of doctors prescribe it like paracetomol to regular that don't actually need it.

For someone taking 4mg of lorazepam (about 40mg diazepam) for a year constitutes long term use and it may potentially take a year perhaps longer or shorter to completely withdraw, depending of course on the person and how they feel.
4mg your mind must have been frazzled.
