Please help me with my addiction

Thanks for all the replies guys, I've booked myself in to a local rehab clinic after talking to my boss and I spoke to my family. They were supportive and understanding and offered me a lot of assistance.

I hope you have an easy recovery. Get well soon.

Anywhere from 4 weeks to 9 months depending on what rehab.

Jesus.. Try alcohol or marijuana? Not good to substitute one drug for another but if that helps you get off the pills, it will be easier to stop weed and booze.

Alcohol in my opinion is the absolute devil. For anyone trying to recover from anything, alcohol should be avoided at all costs. It is the gateway drug and an absolute bastard.

Every time i have relapsed into doing something stupid, it was because I had some booze first.

Please just quit that job, it's killing you. Get out of town. Go someplace new. Start all over again. Good Luck, I really mean it.

How on earth did you manage to make this about you?

On topic... your doctor's advice is extremely unhelpful. You're basically a kid, and you aren't prepared to cope with the kind of pressure that you're being placed under. I'd back off a bit on the workload. There's plenty of time in life to work hard; and as you get older it becomes easier to handle. Talk to your managers and explain that you're not coping too well personally and see what you can do about scaling back.

no the doctor is absolutely right. he is telling her that he is not going to entertain her with her stories about stress being the reason she became addicted to these medications? are they medicines to begin with? i don't know what lorazepam is - is it a pain killer? if so why did she take it if she was stressed? i know morphine is a pain killer so why did she indulge in that?

sorry but i side with her doctor in this one. she should not have taken these medicines for stress she should have gone to her doctor in the first place to help her with her stress problems and he would have advised her properly.

he is right in saying stop taking the stuff immediately it is going to be difficult but that is the only way to do this. if she is serious that she wants to stop, then she will go cold turkey. if she doesn't then she is weak and doesn't want to.

How can you say you don't know what a drug is, then advise her to cold turkey it? That is potentially dangerous advice.

You can't just stop taking psychotic medicine. The doctor is supposed to know that.

Why not google the medican before making idiotic comments like the above.

Thanks for the link it doesn't explain how people self diagnose themselves so easily. If you are addicted to something you just automatically have an addictive personality?

If you know you are like that why not just say no from the start? Or do you only find this out after you are addicted? But then everybody that has an addiction has the same personality trait?. It is just a PC term for I shouldn't have started?

I don't want to start a fight. I have a sister that uses this excuse for bloody everything, but she still puts herself in all the situations where she is not willing to say no. If you don't want to and know you have a weakness why not stay away from situations that can escalate?

I have said no to drugs on numerous occasions. If I said yes does that mean I have an Addictive personality ( it just sound as if everybody is going to get addicted to me .. Sorry It does. ) or does that mean I just couldn't say no the second and the third and the 20th time?

Yes I know it is a disease and I don't look down on people that has fallen into the trap.

Or do these people have an arrogant personality? ( not trying to be mean hear me out. ) They were arrogant enough to think they are strong willed enough not to ever get addicted?

I mean every time I was presented with the option, my first thoughts was, Oh No I might get addicted. Does this mean I have an addictive personality and realized it? Or does it just mean I'm not arrogant and are strong willed ( oke I'm stubborn as a mule)

Are all addicts suffering from "addictive personality"?
Did they only find it out after the addiction?
Is saying that you have an addictive personality not just an excuse not to quit or just start again.
Addiction is chemical not a personality trait.

I do not think the OP has an addictive personality. It takes balls to want to stop and ask for advice.
She should stop saying it.
Just stop.
Say. I was the biggest idiot on two legs look what I have done. Look at what I am willing to give up. I will not fall into the trap again.

Yes she will need help to stop and will continue her struggle to say no. It just feels like an obstacle you put in your own way when you put that out there about yourself.

You do not have an addictive personality. You made a mistake. We all do. You are willing to fix yours. That is all that matters.

Please Read this with no condescending, snarkey or judgmental tone. I'm honestly intrigued and obviously have my own opinions and can not talk to my sister about it because she has a fatalistic view on this "personality disorder" of hers. That is it. I feel it is so fatalistic.. Very DQ.

mila you said it in a nicer way than i would EVER say it. i get tired of all this carp of genetic traits etc. let me give you a perfect example of addictive behavior or rather non addictive. i was on stipayne (spelling) for 6 months for pain. now this wasn't your average 20 tablets a months this was a hundred or more i was taking in a month because of the extreme pain. after i had the operation i stopped taking them. now after taking these things for a solid 6 months i would think i would have become addicted to them would i?

this whole thing of using something as an excuse to take a tablet because someone needs it because of x,y,z is a load of codswallop. yes if you need a tablet for certain issues like pain, depression etc, take it. but then when there is no longer any pain there is absolutely no need to be taking these tablets.

Grow up all of you chaps. That poor woman is going through hell and all you can say is "ohnoes, she should have said no to drugs and should not have started using them in the first place."

Notice that she said that a doctor gave her those pills as a prescription at first, she didn't got out actively looking to get high. It was just an easy escape mechanism for her later to continue using drugs.

I have spoken to her over Skype last night and it turns out that we actually met once when I was in JHB at Sandton City. She is a beautiful young woman and a wonderful person but deeply troubled. Don't be so quick to judge cos you might find yourself in her shoes one day.

Edit: Kaylee is now in rehab.

how did the doctor prescribe pain meds for stress wow.

OT: I think I suffer from mild social anxiety, does anyone know what medication I can buy over the counter to help with this and roughly what it would cost or would it be better to stay away from meds and try sort this out by myself?

When I say I have mild social anxiety for me it feels like when I am confronted with groups of people I get nervous and almost close up hasn't always been this way only in the last year or two.

there's calmettes.

You're one ignorant lady Celine, tenacious, but ignorant. I bet you think depression is just negative emotion as well
The OP's doctor, the guy that told her to just quit, he should have his license revoked or at the least be given a warning from the SA Medical and Dental Council. What reckless advice is this? These drugs should be weened off.

oh codswallop man. let me tell you what the pain clinic had me on in 2006.

600 neurontin.
240 lentogesic
240 tramasette (spelling)
60 tramal (spelling)
30 something with a "t" it was supposed to be for stress
50 temgesic (this i could only get every 2 weeks from the pharmacy as they didn't keep it at the pharmacy they had to order it)

this was my monthly prescription. eventually i said these bloody people are nuts they going to kill me with all this stuff but this RSD isn't going to kill me so i will learn how to cope with my condition. so i decided to stop all this medication after 9 months of this cold turkey. it was hell but you can do it. i bet the OP didn't have nearly as much as this list.

So yeah guys I am a fkn anonymous. My name is news24. I am 15 years old and I work for a stupendously huge financial and stock trading company. The pressure is absurd, and I take truckloads of oxycontinlol, oxycodonelol, MS Continlol, Duragesiclol, Fentoralol, Actiqlol, Dilaudidlol and Palladonelol. Also a hardcore heroin addict, just because of work pressure.

When my wife, aka my cousin, found out about my addiction she started pimping me out to anybody desperate enough. Not cool.

I am starting to think my lifestyle is negatively affecting my health and my decision making ability.

My doctor said I should just quit overnight, and if I can't do that I should just kill myself.

So anybody have some advice ?

I think you're being very immature about this whole thing. What if that woman was your relative or sister?

You're using your own personal experience and applying it broadly to everyone? Get off the high horse you road in on, no one cares about you e-(medical)penor. I honestly can't believe the ignorance you've displayed in your various posts over the last page.

FWIW I've been on similar high doses of pains meds for months on end, and also stopped cold turkey, so I'm not talking out of my arse here. It's not easy at all, in fact it's quite beyond some people. It doesn't make them weak, it just means that their strengths lie in different areas.

Most of those are pain pills.

Read up on some of the drugs the op took. They are some of the most addictive drugs available and most psychiatrists only prescribe the drugs for a period of 2 weeks.

IIRC, tramacet is most paracetamol and with less paracetamol than Panado

Wow, just saw this thread! I can't talk about the other meds the OP took but I do know lorezepam well. It is known to cause physical dependance in five days. As soon as the dependence kicks in it is nearly impossible to quit cold turkey and in fact should not be attempted unless you want to die. The withdrawal symptoms can be severe and lead to convulsion and ultimately death. Unfortunately alot of doctors prescribe it like paracetomol to regular that don't actually need it.

The best way to quit is to do a slow withdrawal dependant on your current dosage and to substitute with a long acting benzo like diazepam. It is not possible to reduce lorazepam dosage without diazepam substitution no matter what your doctor or the label says. The half life of lorazepam is to short and just likely to cause daytime withdrawal, muscle pain, fever, trembling, shaking, headache, panick attacks etc.

For someone taking 4mg of lorazepam (about 40mg diazepam) for a year constitutes long term use and it may potentially take a year perhaps longer or shorter to completely withdraw, depending of course on the person and how they feel.

To the OP don't feel ashamed. You will be surprised how many people take these types of drugs. They have a term for it, its called involuntary dependance.

It is important to talk about it to family and friends if possible. Most people that are successful have constant support.

Good luck!
P.S. To the guy who took diazepam for the back pain tell your doctor to go jump. Its just not worth it.

Like I said, you need support. Constant support.

Ja, I was upfront with my Ativan dependence. Told the family about it immediately. It took me about six months to quit. I tried to go cold turkey and failed miserably the first time. The pain was unbearable. Not fun.
