Ok so i'm moving into a place that seems to have ADSL lines installed.

What ISP is the best for uncapped, and what is the total cost per month?
I see Mweb had 1MB uncapped for R199/month....is that good, and what other costs are there?

I'm really new to ADSL :(

Don't get 1 meg it sucks at streaming, you want to get at least a 2 meg line.

Afrihost is best bang for buck, earlier today I posted my latest bill and it was R897 for all line rental and a 4meg uncapped bundle from afrihost.

The thread was called thank you afrihost.

I'm not looking for something too expensive, R900 seems like too much.
I'd prefer something in the R300-R400 range if possible.

I don't need to stream ANYTHING at all, except for the odd youtube which is perfectly fine at 360p

You need telephone line rental, ADSL rental and a data account.

ISPs offer either just the last, or the last 2 as a bundle. Telkom offers all 3 as a bundle, but few MyBB ppl go for that.

For uncapped I'd suggest either Telkom, mweb or afrihost.

You'll probably be looking closer to the 600 mark in total for a 2mbps line. cheaper than that would put you on a 384k line which will be upgrade somewhere in the near future. That would involve enduring a few months of 384k though.

In that case mweb is perfect. I think their 1meg bundle is R339 or thereabout plus R132.15 for voice = R470 which is half my bill so I guess you have a point.

Hi, PM me your contact details and I will arrange for one of our consultants to contact you. They will present the various options to you and you can decide what best suit your needs.

Telkom analog line: R153.00 (Not Optional)
Uncapped ADSL bundle: R297 PM (incl. VAT) Includes digital line & uncapped data from Afrihost
Router: R500 - R1000.00 [Once off]

Depending what time of the day you intend to use the most of your line I would suggest you have a look at @lantic uncapped bolt-on. After a R100 setup fee you end up paying R15/gb for any usage between 6am-6pm with usage between 6pm-6am being uncapped.

If you only use the account after hours it works out to: Telkom Line Rental R148.37+ ADSL Line rental (~cheapest 384kbps R149, 2048kbps R249) + R59 Bolt-on

384k line > R148.37 + R149 + R59 = R356.37
2mbps line > R148.37 + R249 + R59 = R456.37

Telscum throttles their accounts during business and peak hours so keep well clear from them

I've never had a problem with mweb, I've been on the 1 meg package since July and streaming is pretty much perfect (unless someone else is using the line at the same time) , and they DON'T THROTTLE!!!!!! their shaping doesn't bother me as the protocols I use (p2p) are acceptably shaped during peak times, they are very lenient! At the moment I'm paying R488 excl. Telkom Tax and its running at +-1.5mbps during speedtests (because my line is syncing at 2mbps), but average download speeds are still at 98kB/s

From what I've heard afrihost is also pretty good but I've never used them so I can tell you much about them

Axxess will discount a 2mb line to R249 and then you can get uncapped vouchers @ R99

You can have your line and data from the same isp and it's a bit cheaper, but I'd say keep your line with Telkom always and it makes it easier to change isp if you are unhappy.

So i'm looking at R450-R470 for 1MB Uncapped.

I thought Mweb included the ADSL line rental in that R199 fee, damn :(

oh, does that price only start in october?

also, why does it say "Line rental not available on this package" for the R199/1Mbps Option?
Can't I get a Data + ADSL Line Bundle anymore?

384 lines are getting upgraded from October, you must get a 384 line and wait for it to get upgraded to 1 meg to stay close to R400. When the lines are upgraded then you can bundle it.

Please feel free to send me a PM if you need more info on Afrihost's Uncapped products. We'd love to chat to you about what will suit you best :)

Ok I think i'll go for 386Kb/s and wait for them to upgrade to 1Mbs (I'm only moving in 1st October anyway)

Where can I find a 386Kbs/1Mbs COMBO deal where I only have to add the Voice-line rental?
(because it seems MWeb doesn't bundle the adsl line with their Uncapped deal)

If you sign up for a bundle with us, line rental and data will cost R297 -and will stay at R297 even when you upgrade to 1Mbps.
