Please help to save the springbok emblem...

Should the South African national rugby emblem be changed from the springbok?

I think they will have a chicken as a emblem not a protea
 
It seems that many of the existing groups are asking for sms "donations", and I think this is why there are not as many members as there could be...

Even though http://www.savethespringbok.co.za/5101.html exists, it has very very few members and is not really marketed correctly IMO. Only 16 votes on the poll, no email sign-up and no actual petition. They are not likely to get much clout. We can join forces with them IMO through another site or an expansion of their own site of others are willing to help out, so please do.

Knowing most of you on this forum, I know that if we stuck together, we could have some major clout, as is evident through the sheer success of this forum...

We should get some one like Nelson Mandela to champion our cause. He has a special connection with the bokke and maybe if enough people raise the issue we can get him to voice his support. I rate a single public statement would be enough, cos no one is going to call him a racist :p
 
Every South African offended by it can't call themselves South African.
 
I think the ANC wants to destroy the emblem because in the last 14 years they have not built that sort of icon themselves. They rather destroy than build.

Not sure if you listened to 5FM this morning but Gareth Cliffe seems to be very opposed to the suggestion of the getting rid of the emblem too. I may look at mailing him and see if he will not make mention of our intentions. Although he may be reluctant to get too involved in his personal capacity we may be able to persuade him to make mention of our intentions, whether it be the petition or the peaceful protest of not attending a Springbok match, to help gain support. He was rather vocal about it this morning.

Just as an aside he also chatted to celebrity HHP who agreed that he was opposed to seeing the symbol go. He too mentioned what a strong brand it is, so as we already knew it is not just a white thing!

No I didn't hear that but will also email him about it.

OK, so we have pretty much all that we need, but we just need someone now who can code this into a simple website - anyone willing to offer their help in this respect? I would, but have no idea how to do it myself...
