Please post your line speed, ISP package, ISP cost, and monthly usage...

Line speed: 10Mbs
ISP: OpenWeb 10Mbs Gold Orange
ISP Cost: R969 p/m
Average monthly usage: 800GB

Line speed: 4Mb/s
ISP: Afrihost 50gig Capped
ISP Cost: R199 p/m
Average monthly usage: 45gigs

Line speed: 10Mb/s
ISP: Hyperlink Uncapped
ISP Cost: I dont pay but normal cost is R495
Average monthly usage: 140GB

I've never had the pleasure of these okes.

They seem to resell MTN and IS and there is a big gap between the two on 10mb, which leads me to ask, which are you on?

If your answer is MTN, as they are the cheaper, then, my next question will be where in SA (where is Hotel California?) are you as MTN have capacity problems east and south.

EDIT:

Cost R495?

I only see R699 (MTN) or R1299 (IS)

Line speed: 20Mb/s
ISP: Openweb special 20Mbit Uncapped

No idea. It was before they released their official 20Mbit packages, I received a "custom" 20Mbit account. Works good though, no complaints.

So, no idea on what "package" it actually is?

Probably some cheapy titan or standard uncapped of some sort at that price which doesn't matter because even a shaped 20mb line is better than a shaped 4mb one.

I know ISP's single out "special" customers, and judging by your post count, you are a veteran and are being "looked after" nicely, but am also a bit confused because you seem to be active on other ISP's threads aswell, if memory serves me correct, or maybe I'm just a crazy person :)

In saying that, and assuming you are on the IS network, what are your daytime (8am-5pm) speeds like?

Probably doesn't matter with a 20mb, which is why this senerio is in my dreams, as I share a 4mb line with the whole family and frankly, it's no where near enough!

I'm stuck with a 4mb and don't even have the luxury of 10mb, let alone 20 or 40mb, although 40mb would just be being greedy in this point in time :D

Vent over :) Sorry for making you read it all...

EDIT: Bear in mind I said all that without actually checking any facts :D

EDIT 2: Too many Jack Daniels to care :D

Please try to keep the general chatter to other threads. I'm hoping to avoid this thread derailing into the various ISP debates that are already all over the forum. I suppose there's probably no better place than this thread to ask questions about the various packages that people are on, so no issues there at all, but the general chatter and ISP specific-bashing probably won't serve this thread well at all and will only make it more difficult for me to later collate everything...;)

I apologise.

I'm very sensitive when it comes to ADSL/ISP/Telkom subjects, and I do get into my moods and start stirring ****.

I knew I was corrupting your research when I said all ^^ and (although not sorry for saying it) out of respect, I won't mention another word even if I get sucked in by other like minded folks.

Promise.

I notice some people are posting line rental amounts, etc. under ISP costs. I am under the impression ISP cost means data account only or am I mistaken?

As some people bundle their lines with their data, I feel the line cost should be included.

I'm after the consumer bracket where the line costs are fixed in our market, so there's no need to include them in your posts...:)
