Pokemon Go!

Its actuallly helpful to check which pokemon counter which. This makes it entirely possible for a weak pokemon to take on a gym.

Bad example but for some reason these guys near my lunch spot decided to stack their gym with 5 big Arcanine's, all 1300cp+, I'm lucky enough to have a decent vaporeon now (1400cp) and could clear the entire place with just that. This was because I was using water against their fire.

no it was because you were using VAporeon. sure its water, but you could have taken out 3 of ANYTHING (other than maybe a really really high electric type higher than the vaporeon that is)

Vaporeon is just bonkers, its so much stronger than anything with the same CP, and the fact that it evolves so much higher than the other options from the same evee as well.

not trying to take anything away from you, but Vaporeon is a bad egsample.

I just had to take one out of my gym. my Executor was 400 points higher, its a grass type so water is not very effective, and Psychic is super effective against VAporeon. still was a close fight all 3 times I got to it. he even won one fight and my starme had to do the last few points of damage.

Would be really nice if higher evolutions gave more XP. Thinking Pidgey->Pidgeotto->Pidgeot. Goes from 12->50 to do the evolution but you still only get 500xp. So the Pidgeotto is actually wasted as you would just wait till you get a good one to push to Pidgeot, transferring the rest and evolving pidgeys.

Again... Someone please explain to me why Vaporeon is so strong? It doesn't seem right.

Having said that- if I want to take advantage of this, having a look at Eevee, what sort of CP/move set/abilities should I be looking at if I want to evolve one of my own? And at what (trainer) level?

Its just a game imbalance - for now. So yes its not right. I'm sure they will fix it soon.

There is a hack to get Vaporeon, just google for it. You need to rename the Pokemon before evolving it.

Agreed. You should get XP based on the candies you had to use.

Right now instead of doing the second evolution its more effective to just do lots of evo 1.

Not really what I'm asking but thank you. I know about this, and have a potential candidate already renamed- what I want to know is what would be considered the minimum level/CP/ability to be at before going for the evolve.

Its pointless taking on a gym with 200 odd cp pokemons when the lowest in the gym is 700+
The Pinsir's are the first higher levels I have caught but I never see them in gyms so was wondering if they were any good.
Take a low level gym it's still 6 against 1 or 2 if it's a low level gym. Even losing at a gym is fun.

I would not evolve it if I would get under 1000CP out of the end deal.
and I reccomend using http://pogotoolkit.com/ see the CP of the pokemon you are about to evolve based on its CP at the time.

Your Eevee will evolve into a Jolteon or Flareon or Vaporeon with 761-791 or 931-934 or 991-1014 Combat Power (CP). ()
So... Guess I'll have to catch an Eevee stronger than this 377CP candidate.

I would recommend so yes.

BUT at the same time that VAporeon can and will take on gyms with ease. depending on your level I might even say evolve and then power up if you have the candies. it may be worth it. but do a few searches and see if it is better to power up before or after the evolution.

I'm currently level 14. Even at that level it would be my strongest Pokémon by far

Depends on a lot of things.. remember not all are the same i.e. the 2nd move/combat could be suckage.

So ideally you have a special move which is of a type.. e.g. fire/psychic/dark etc but you get some with normal moves as a 2nd which is utter suckage as then your attack does not ab/use the type vulnerability pokemon have. The best ones is where your pokemon has 1st and 2nd move which differs and thus makes it harder to beat

I took down a 1100 CP Vaporeon with a 800 Ivysaur, the Ivysaur even took down a Zubat before that.

-Remember to move sideways to dodge in the battle (swipe left/right).
-Once the blue bar fills up hold down until you do an ultimate on the other pokemon.

I actually think gyms battles are the most pointless thing in the game because of how easy it is to take them over. Keeping a gym has more to do with who is in the area then anything else.

If I could put my 3 best pokemon (1000-1200CP) in a gym a guy with 6 lvl 300-400 could easily take the gym.

Very true.. which is why I'm planning on taking some gyms which appear to have weak players who don't play :p The one near where I stay is overthrown every handful hours

I have 3-4 gyms that I can hold for a day or 2 and then a few close by if I go out to get lunch. Basically I can time it to have 7 gyms when I claim on the day.

Anyone gone for their free pizza or drink (depending on level) in Cape Town?
