Lets see what you guys like to use the most.
1: Gnome
2: KDE
3: XFCE
4: Other (please mention which one and why)

I don't know how many is out there and yes you can mod and change them like you want, but which one do you like the most!? This rating is now for overall usage and general usage.

Also maybe if you do use a distro for gaming, please mention what distro you are using and what desktop environment you are running to support games or make games run faster if your gaming at all on linux.

This poll is basically aimed at what is your preferred desktop environment!

Gnome for me.
Just made the switch at work from XP to Linux and it took me easier to adapt to Gnome than KDE.

Depends on my mood but Gnome mostly, KDE 4 is just not usable to me the way KDE3 was.

KDE up until 4. Then I moved to GNOME

Tried XFCE and it made me want to kill myself.

Laptop: Gnome (themed)
Desktop: Openbox (something lightweight... have an old PC)

I use gnome on fedora, (with some compiz plugins enabled, and an emerald theme)

I officially reloaded my pc with ubuntu last night. So no more M$ for me.. I'm joining the dark side as of today! :D

I will play around with the setups but for now im going to stick with gnome. :)

I seem to be the only person running kde, although it is too soon for me to have a clear cut favourite.

Once I feel a little more settled I will try gnome again.

No, I'm also running KDE. Since I sorted out the irritations on 4.1, I've been reasonably happy. Going to load 4.2 on some distro in a Vbox to have a look.

KDE 4.2 at the moment, before that it was KDE with compiz fusion but compiz does not run too well on 4.2 but 4.2 does give you most of what compiz fusion does anyway.

I have installed the gnome but have not really played with it yet.

I prefer Gnome, I found it just cleaner and easier to navigate. I found KDE harder to navigate and found myself searching for everything - even down to simple desktop tasks.

As for XFCE its fine on a system where you just need a GUI for a few bits and bobs (maybe a server) I wouldnt recommend it for daily desktop use.

Same for me.

(Must say I'm a little disappointed in the lack of fire in this flame-bait thread so far:D)

I hate gnome! All you gnome loving (insert insult here) can go and (insert rude comment here)!!!!!!

KDE RULES AND CANNOT BE BEATEN HA HA HA HA!!!!

Does that make you feel better?

I am only joking by the way, nothing serius.

Which do I prefer? KDE (3.5.10 is still more usable than 4.1) - Quanta and Kate+plugins, K3B, amaroK swayed me. Apart from Firefox (Hi, I'm raithlin, and I'm addicted to FF Extensions), GIMP and Inkscape I found everything I wanted on one set of libraries (Qt). (I know, OOo as well, but for most purposes KOffice works fine)

Which am I currently using? Gnome (/ducks) on my desktop, Fluxbox (AntiX) on my laptop (256MB RAM, and she flies). When KDE4.2 is official and in the ubuntu repos, I'll add it to my repertoire again.

To me it's not so much the DE as it is the applications. As long as I can install without a hassle and find what I'm looking for (Gnome-DO / Kicker), I'm happy.
