Not only popups, but PORN sites! The kid doesn't have to see a popup to visit a porn site. He can just type the address!!!!

There is no way to control who visits these sites, so the best is to KILL THEM!

If you really cared about the wellbeing of the child you would not be leaving them alone at home unsupervised.

I was thinking the same thing...

And if you dont teach the child about the supposed "badness" of porn, thats not good either, and if you do and he actively goes looking for it, he will find it somewhere else...

Hell, I got off on the lingerie supplements from my moms fairladies, back when all you could get was Scope with their silly little stars.

And anyway, sex is not a bad thing...

Or you can always install a content filter to block out sites with naughty words... you won't be able to always supervise the child at home...

It really is a difficult situation, because the child might visit friends where they are able to surf unsupervised... or even at a cyber cafe... :eek:

So why should everyone be deprived if people cannot take control in their kids lives? It's like shutting down tv stations and showing god channels 24/7 because parents allowed their kids to watch programs which were meant for a higher age group.

The point is that the majority of the population are not responsible for how you as a parent raise your child. If you're not responsible enough with them, why should we all bear the consequences?

If your children are online it's your responsibility to guide teach them responsible surfing habits - and to make ensure that they don't encounter undesireable content. There are programs like netnanny that help.

There is no good reason to try to censor adult porn - kiddie porn fine. As dom said this has prolly more to do with ca$h than anything else.

Seriously though - these FPB fools seem to think that they have some measure of control over the internet?

Ever even heard of programs like netnanny? Ever tried using the internet settings on your browser?

Sorry a parent who's kids have access to the web and don't have the proper controls in place is in my oppinion iggnorent and cannot blame porn.
And if the kids don't get porn on the net they can get it in shops, on TV or from friends. Best way is to teach your kids the right way. If you tell a kid why it's bad and not just that they shouldn't look at it you'll have loads more success. Kids ALWAYS do the opposite of what you TELL them to do.......

Yup, ideally you'd try to teach them such that they don't want to look at porn themselves.
Porn promotes selfishness at the expense of women.

I am not aware of any SA firm censoring any website on the internet... This is a much more serious accusation than all this p0rn rubbish.

/In regard to the p0rn issue, Child p0rn is illegal everywhere and anything that can be done to stop it gets my vote. Adult p0rn should be left alone since it is not illegal and is freedom of choice.

If you are worried about your kids getting onto adult p0rn sites then install net nanny or something like that and monitor your kids internet usage. P0rn is no more evil than that movie "The English Patient" Now that should have been banned for boredom reasons :D
 
once more it's people not wanting to take responsibility for raising their children properly. Children shouldn't be allowed on teh interweb anyway without supervision and if parents allow that, then they only have themselves to blame if little johnny finds a pr0n site. Netnanny, cybersitter, there are many good apps out there to bloke this stuff, so why don't parents take the time to actually put their own measures in place and to educate kids properly?

If an adult wants to look at pr0n then they have everyright to. Ajax, why do you say that pr0n promotes selfishness at the expense of women? If the ladies (or men) in question are willing to pose for the camera and make a living out of it, who are you to deny them that because it goes in the face of your personal morals? Each to their own.

The problem comes in when that porn is distributed. Then other people's (i.e. not those who originally took part in making the porn) views or approach to sexuality and women are degraded when they are exposed to it.

Find me any man who says that porn promoted a healthy relationship with his partner and I will find you 10 who says it didn't.

Freedom of expression is good, but in some cases it unfortunately has long term consequences on society as a whole.
 
This isn't about child porn anyway, if it was it would be a totally different matter, its about vetting content by the government. Sure the first step is SA-hosted sites but what about when they start blocking overseas sites. Its a slippery slope.

The reason pr0n doesn't promote healthy relationships is the percieved badness of it. Hell, it probably wouldn't even be as popular if not for the thrill of doing something 'bad'. There's nothing wrong with pr0n.
 
Nothing wrong with porn? Consider the consequences:
Porn is way down on the slippery slope of moral comprimise already - its effect is to make society increaslingly used to "anything goes" morally.

if they have their way, there would no punishment if my neighbour decides my 12 year old daughter will be his next sexual partner.
