Port forwarding - Telkom Mobile

Hi there!

I'm using Yawcam and No-ip; trying to access a webcam at my house (from outside the LAN). Obviously need to forward a port (8081 according to Yawcam). Have done everything according to the book but port still closed!

Does anyone know if TM allow port forwarding? To 8081 or 8888?

Restart the router and use new IP address. Router being used at the moment?

Thanks guys, I've tried both sites and ports 8081 and 8888 are closed / stealth.

I'm using a TP-Link (MR3420) 3G/4G Wireless N. Forwarding is pretty straight forward with this router. I've also tried temporarily disabling firewalls and AVG to see if they were the problem, but to no avail.

Must be Telkom blocking those ports then. I'll give them a call, hopefully the consultant might know what I'm talking about.

I see that it's a 3g router. If telkom is anything like vodacom then you will need to fill in a form to request unrestricted apn and then change the apn in the router to unrestricted. Vodacom blocks each and every port on the network unless you go the unrestricted route. Im sure all mobile isp's blocks the ports.

Yup, blade20v is correct. I've spoken to TM and they block all ports by default. Need to formally request unrestricted APN.

Something has changed, as it was unrestricted by default so far. On Monday we can expect clarification from TM rep, please.
1. Test yourself connecting from PC using 3G modem on COM port (not NDIS or HiLink thingy), disable firewall on PC. If works, it points to the router.
2. Assign static IP adress to webcam (outside of DHCP range) and configure router accordingly.

Hi, thanks for your reply,

1) I test myself by trying to log on with my phone (on TM network and not connected to the LAN) but still says port is closed.
2) I don't know much about IP webcams but have gathered the following from various blogs and articles on the net:
a) one can not assign an IP address to a USB webcam (is this true??)
b) according to the software I use for the webcam (Yawcam and Manycam), you have to use your computer's IP
address when configuring the port you want to forward. (In my case, I assigned a static IP to my computer
WITHIN the DHCP range, as the router says address reservation can only be within the range)

Yesterday I sent a PM to TM. Will let you know when he replies!

What OS is your phone running? I recently found an application that could do what you are looking for but the client is only for Android and iOS (it can stream from a windows pc but it can only stream to the client). No need to enable port forwarding or anything else.

Only thing is, I dont trust the application 100%...

OK, if it specifically says so.
My comment on testing port forwarding on PC with 3G modem (COM port) is still valid.

Hi there,

I'm running Android. Stumbled upon an app just yesterday ... Trackview. You have to log in with your gmail account. It's actually works just fine, but for some reason I also have a slight trust issue with the app and desktop software. Would rather go the self-configured IP way. Is this the app you were referring to?

Now, if TM would just reply on my PM, logged calls and in-store visits ...

Uhm, I'm not 100% sure what the COM port is? I do vaguely remember something about COM and LPT ports from the time I had a dot matrix printer :D

I have a 3G stick; goes into the laptop USB port. Is that it? (So, disconnect from the LAN, connect via USB 3G modem?)

Yip. Disable firewall in Windows on dialup connection (your modem will be there and emulated COM port as well :) ).

Just to add comment to your original configuration: As you use software running on Windows to access webcams and forward to Internet, you have to configure port forwarding both on the router and Windows firewall.

No, am referring to AtHome Camera - Home Security https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ichano.athome.camera&hl=en (viewer component)
And then there is a server/webcam component that can be loaded onto windows:
http://www.ichano.com/download.html

Ive played with it and it seems to work well.

Nope, unfortunately still does not work. Port closed. I eventually ended up disabling Windows Firewall altogether, but still no luck.

Hey guys,

TM sent me a PM back saying:

"Hi

Telkom does not block any ports. Please advise if you have tried to reset the router and test again. Please provide the error message and contact details.

Regards
Basani Baloyi
Telkom Social Media Team"

I have reset my router, disabled all firewalls, disabled anti-virus .... jeesh ... how difficult can it be to forward a single port??

Would anyone maybe want to give it a go via Teamviewer? :wtf:
