I'm not familiar with Yawcam but I guess it installs a web service on your machine? If so what happens if you go to http://localhost:8081/ via your web browser on that machine?

the software might be at fault? can you check if the port is open? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexd.portscanner

Ok, downloaded and now it asks for my IP. Now ... I think maybe this is where the problem might be ... because I really don't know much about this part:

I'm using no-ip.com to overcome the dynamic IP problem. So I've signed up and created a host: xxxxx.ddns.net
I also installed their software which constantly links my dynamic IP address to my specific host name.

Now, if I want to access my PC from a different location, do I put the following in the browser? xxxxx.ddns.net:8081? (with 8081 being the port I forwarded on my router and windows firewall)

Same question goes for the port scanner app I just downloaded. Do I put xxxxx.ddns.net where it asks for my IP address? (If I do that it says "Host not responding to ping"

Not sure about the webservice, but if I go to localhost:8081 it open a Yawcam login page, I put in my U+P and then it shows my webcam. This part inside the LAN works well!

Nope, unfortunately still does not work. Port closed. I eventually ended up disabling Windows Firewall altogether, but still no luck.
You don't say which way you were connecting. 3G modem dialing modem COM port? Or dialing modem using different interface (HiLink or LAN adapter)?
Please post expanded view of COM ports in Device Manager.
You have asked before "what is COM port", it is why confirmation is required.

Ok, I was a bit lost on this one but this is what I did:

1) Disconnected from LAN
2) Put my 3G stick modem into the USB port
3) Connected to the internet with the 3G modem
4) Then disabled the firewall completely
5) Tested the port by going to http://www.yougetsignal.com/ which said the port was still closed.

Now when I look at the device manager, I don't see any COM ports, in fact, only now do I see it seems that the 3G modem shows up as a Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. (Exactly what you said should not happen, right?

So maybe I'm not connected correctly now (on a COM port)?
Sorry! Didn't check the device manager the first time! :(

Here's the screenshot of the device manager ... http://tinypic.com/r/10z0diw/8

Right, this is what I suspected and screenshot confirms. There are reports on this forum that some NDIS based modems have internal firewall which cannot be switched off! Search Internet if in your modem COM port interface can be enabled, or use another 3G modem (older work well). Or at least post model number, maybe someone can help.

OH... MY... WORD....!
you sir, are a genius!

I manage to dig out an "old" 3G modem, connected and voila! Everything works like a charm!
Interesting to know that some of the newer 3G routers have built-in firewalls that can't be disabled.
Confirmed!

Also a big thanks to everyone else on this thread for your input and advice! Much appreciated!

As suggested, I had to open the port in Windows firewall too.

Must say, the AtHome software and Android app works beautifully! Can handle up to four webcams, supports motion detection (works perfectly and auto-records and push-notifies) , one can listen in and also speak through pc speakers. Awesome features. Completely free and add free app.

Thanks again everyone!

Glad to see. Now, while working, don't forget to re-enable firewall and configure only ports required by the software.
