Hi there

Just a quick request for software suggestions please :-)

I need a "portable" software program (can perhaps run from USB or online), this software program would need to allow me to add client info, as well as generate invoices, and also customer payments so that statements can also be generated.
that's all that is required, no payments or bank statement capturing or anything like that.

does anyone perhaps know of such a program please?

Thank you :-)

I own a Hillstone Invoice Manager licence, had it since I started on my own back in 2006, good portable program, not using it anymore, everything is done online now…

We use OpenERP and WebERP among the groups in company, both open-source. Should you go online, WebERP is the route to go in my opinion. OpenERP is resource heavy and to much larger scale.

Thank you so much. I will take a look at WebERP, I haven't tried that one before :-)
Thank you

I'd really like to hear how you get on with these apps - Do you use them purely for financial or also for distribution, ineventory, manufacturing. Is there reliable external support available?

We have a proprietory ERP system (and that's not going to change any time soon) but I'm curious as to how viable open source ERP is in a working environment.

Have a look at www.pastelmybusiness.co.za it web based and would be safer than using a usb since the usb could be lost with all Your data. It costs around R130 per month but its worth it.

OpenERP is excellent, made various decisions back in 2008 to either go Pastel or open-source and with my Accpac experience I decided not to go the paid route due to support. OpenERP is a massive community with 2000+ active members to develop the product; yes we use all the ERP modules (incl. others) and additional payroll modules. But there is a huge “BUT” here, all our systems is integrated into our CRM (SugarCRM which is also enhanced with paid and custom modules) and our cart systems and websites, everything is synchronised, our CRM is not only customer based, but internally also.

To run OpenERP you will require a dedicated server, unlike WebERP. WebERP is also great but only to smaller businesses, although integration is easier.

You will need to test run these, BEFORE any decision is made.

May I ask which proprietary ERP system you use?

We are on Syspro.

Kudos to you for going the open source route. It's good to hear of a business adding value from the open source in this way.

Hi

You can find brilliant low cost web based software here at http://www.codecanyon.net?ref=moosag

Specifically you can use Pro Invoice Maker $12 -> http://codecanyon.net/item/pro-invo...=category_item&WT.z_author=Adytzoo&ref=moosag

You can either get hosting and host it yourself or host it on your machine that you lug around with you.

There are 100's of valuable apps there. Wether you wish to resell, use or whatever. I use quite a few personally.

Getting a kickback with those references to yourself? :p

In a way… You will need you own active development also, we are primarily in IT and marketing, but IT is outsourced based, except consultation. The whole system is designed to automatically attend to schedules which would keep manual admin to a bare minimum and to push production to all other departments. Hard to explain…

The other reason was to implement more than one system to do testing throughout so that we can build customer solutions, but have those all integrated so that data will be synced throughout all systems in their respective places. It would not have been so easily possible with proprietary applications and most likely would not have the budget to do so.

I have never used or tested Syspro.

I can see couple of tools that I had used in the past in the above list, which I don't want to mention because my experience with them was disastrous.

I had been invoicing manually for the past 18 or 20 months, as the tools that we used did not go well. Being a small business, we do not take risk purchasing a software without using it, which had been working very well for us. All we had invested is on good tools, especially for our kind of business. I had even used CMS based extensions for billing and invoicing.

Luckily, one of my client referred Zylot - http://www.zylot.com which I had been using for the past couple of weeks and we are in the process of purchasing this software for our in-house usage.
