LFP isn't new, it's just available now that the patent expired so everyone can make it for a reasonable price. It still has some disadvantages - slow charge and discharge rates (comparitively) being the main issue with these types of devices.
Also much lower power density but that's not such a big issue in this scenario - just means your device is a bit heavier.

It is the better option for home or portable storage in most situations, but it does depend what market the manufacturer is targeting and what batteries they can actually get hold of. LFP production is still being ramped up and there's just fewer of them available worldwide at the moment.

TLDR: There's nothing wrong with NMC (and NMA etc.) and in some ways they're much better than LFP. BUT know the advantages and disadvantages of each and pick the right one for your needs and budget.
 
That Bluetti EP900 looks interesting. Would be quite a good solution for our loadshedding cycles and ideal for someone who can't have inverters installed.

The capacity of the EP900 is completely wild! It really means you can power the entire house without a solar installation etc. Amazing technology!
 
My RiverPro getting a workout with all this loadshedding. It has to continue being the workhorse for the next month until my solar arrives. So far I haven't noticed any significant loss of capacity (had it since October last year).

Ain't that the truth. I see so many people selling their trolleys because they upgraded. Then they ask the same as what they paid, because you know, supply and demand. On the question of how often was it used: "Oh, every time we had loadshedding for the last 6 months, so it is still in excellent condition". Yeah Buddy, no its not. Those batteries are cooked
 
After a ton of research... I'm still impressed with the Jackery, however am saving up for an EcoFlow Delta.
Just makes way more sense looking at charge, usability and battery setup (roughly 3000 cycles before it starts degrading to 80% max capacity - wow!).

You mean the EcoFlow Delta 2 - Yeah a bit on the pricey side.. But still cheaper than R100 000 "Solar".

Just wondering - apologies if it has been answered earlier in the thread but I'm not going through 26 pages - with the Ecoflow River Pro 720Wh I recently purchased, I was wondering if there is a by-pass feature? What I mean by that is if the mains is on and I have plugged my devices into the Ecoflow, will the battery be bypassed?

Yes. It should allow for bypass use although if you are planning to leave it plugged in all the time using the EPS feature you should take note of the Ecoflow advice:
Here is the answer from our RD team regarding EPS or should you plug in permanently:
In order to better make use of the EPS function, please make sure:
1. the firmware is up-to-date
2. It is recommended to disconnect every 1 month >> fully charge and discharge the unit (0~100% that's a full cycle) twice and then use EPS again

There have also been quite a few reports of overload issues on Ecoflow devices in SA which they are investigating. This might be due power spikes damaging the units, so I'd advise against keeping it plugged in all the time if at all possible.

Should one user a surge protection plug TO the EcoFlow or rather just unplug?

Also EPS has 30 seconds "fail over" so not really useful as a UPS to keep TV / PC "on". But yeah can then use as Battery to turn it on..

both surgeplug while charging and unplug it after fully loaded its costly if you get a spike .

I would be surprised and disappointed if it was not well protected against surges - it's a supply that is used in just these conditions.
I think the switch-over from AC to batteries is more in the range of 20msec, which is slow, but many loads would be fine with it

I think a surge protection plug TO the Ecoflow would be a good idea, but it would be best to unplug and wait for power to stabilise once it returns.

The overload issues people are reporting has me worried so I keep mine unplugged and only charge when required. The Ecoflow rep on Facebook said that the issue seems to be high in SA with very few reported in other regions. Not sure what the cause is.
