Portable Power Stations

Don't these portable stations have a cycle life ?
Why are people buying these stations when you can get a 4KVA inverter generator for about 19 thousand rands?

You don't. Or at least, I don't. These power stations are not really meant to be for more than one or two devices at a time. So put it by your PC or TV and that's the device that it services. With Ecoflows you can move them around pretty easily though, so just unplug and move it.

I got 2 Rivers and a Delta. Then I keep one in each room with the Delta in the kitchen powering the power hungry devices. Works well.

Cool. I'll just install an inverter solution in a house I don't own.

Not to mention you can get something to keep the basics on for less than the price of an inverter.

Edit. Your house batteries also have a cycle life. It's just longer than portable batteries.

If I were to buy one of these units there is no way I'm buying it just to keep my TV on. It has to keep more than just a TV running otherwise I'll lose my sanity. :)

Then he's likely to kill it sooner rather than later. Especially if he's running a lead acid solution.

Yup, lead acid. But he tells me after 4 hours of use he still has 70+% left in the tank. Has been using it for 3 months now and no problems so far.

Cool! I have already used the exact unit before (friends). It powers my TV and Xbox Series S just fine (should be for 2 hours plus) and my work setup (laptop + UHD screen + docking station for like 5 hours).

Plenty of use cases.

Some people stay in flats where you cant run a generator. Some people rent and the owner wont install a change over switch.

And some people like to run their appliances in the middle of the night i.e. a fan and they don't want to get up at 3am to turn the generator on/off.

It also appears as if they won't be bringing in any more River Pro extended batteries. So if you wanted to pick one up and can find stock it might be a good idea to grab one while you still can.

Ja I am considering whether I should get the extended battery, because I wonder whether it will be phased out at some point and then I won't be able to get a replacement if something goes wrong. Not sure how warranties will work when they discontinue the batteries. The double capacity is very enticing and so far I'm happy with the River Pro (even though admittedly it is darn expensive compared to other portable options).

Given that LS is now officially permanent there will be more incentive for competitors to produce or import similar products. So you may have better choice in the future and with LiFePO which is superior.

I think you are a bit confused. This thread is about power stations and not UPS. Portable, mostly used for emergencies and camping.

Depending on the pricing it might be better to wait for the Delta 2 to get here and pick one of them up and later expand it with an extended battery. That way you'll have 2KWh of power in LiFePO which should be the better option.

They'll only get here in May so waiting to see what local prices will be.

I think you may struggle to find stock for the river pro extra battery, seems to be out of stock at many places already. I managed to get from wootware last week.
 
How do you guys pro long the Ecoflow portable unit lifespan

1) Use until totally cut off or a certain % before charging
2) Charging until 100% or less and keep plugged in
3) Only plug on AC when charging
4) Can you store it for time or keep charging every now and then
4) Any other tips do's and don't for the Ecoflow
