You are on the right track, but there's more info.As I understand it, volts are pushed and current is pulled by the load.
So if the provided volts falls within the maximum that the device can accept I don't see any problem.
Lets take my Ecoflow River for example, it supports 200W, 10-25V, 12A of solar input.
I connect a 12V 50A (Max Discharge Current) LFP to it and I get up to around 140W from it IIRC.
12V x 12A = 144W.
With solar panels on these portable power stations one can exceed amps but one should never exceed VOC. Is this wrong and why?
So on point #1 the problem could be that although the volts are matching, the "device" the LFP would be connecting to is not the charge controller but instead the internal battery, while going through the charge controller. If that were to be the case massive amps are possible and there in lies the danger, thus a fuse is recommended.
Point #2 I would think if exceeding the amp rating is stated as okay then there is current limiting in the circuit. Also in this case we are not talking about exceeding it by 100's of amps.
