Portable Power Stations

As I understand it, volts are pushed and current is pulled by the load.

So if the provided volts falls within the maximum that the device can accept I don't see any problem.

Lets take my Ecoflow River for example, it supports 200W, 10-25V, 12A of solar input.
I connect a 12V 50A (Max Discharge Current) LFP to it and I get up to around 140W from it IIRC.

12V x 12A = 144W.

With solar panels on these portable power stations one can exceed amps but one should never exceed VOC. Is this wrong and why?
You are on the right track, but there's more info.

So on point #1 the problem could be that although the volts are matching, the "device" the LFP would be connecting to is not the charge controller but instead the internal battery, while going through the charge controller. If that were to be the case massive amps are possible and there in lies the danger, thus a fuse is recommended.

Point #2 I would think if exceeding the amp rating is stated as okay then there is current limiting in the circuit. Also in this case we are not talking about exceeding it by 100's of amps.
 
On the Geewiz, the solar charge input, is the same as the car lighter input, so it seems like it can accept 12V from a battery

Yea you can probably connect with car lighter socket as that will most likely have some form of current limiting , or so my logic says cause after all it is expected to be connected directly to a car battery ie access to lots of amps (fuse is still a good idea as your lighter socket in car is fused so matching like for like )

But most likely you will have losses too

Losses tends to be a thing always stepping volts up and down, probably not as much as converting ac to dc probably

The amount of amps you will be able to move via this connections likely to be a waste of time

quoted charging time on the geewiz manual for this port will give an idea

Yes probably max 10A, so 120W, so will take ages to charge
 
The bad thing is once we get into solar , we get savings fever

ie we start calculating loads with a fine tooth comb and start seeing the losses , but if we step back and do the calculations we may find the grand total not to be as much and not worthwile the risk/layout

Many install solar smaller array cover almost all of their loads
get a taste of roi and think damn if i had more panels this can happen in a jiffy

then they overshoot the panels
and are now hunting for loads cause the roi suddenly stretched way more than expected
, an idle panel can't roi or help with it ,it becomes a burden on the ones that are working

Well technically none is idle all work a bit less but you guys get my drift i'm sure

Overshooting the panels means now you are in a hole and have to dig deeper to get out in the same time frame as earlier layout

You have to buy more batteries to match panels or get more dump load

A geyser is a cheap battery but naturally only if it is cold

Now yes the panels are cheaper than a battery and does have a bonus on bad weather days

So having idle power ain't totally a bad thing

As long as you know the roi calculation isn't as straight forward the bigger the system gets

Used to not anymore, did not get into the new cycle with newer asics and our power increases work us out of the market sooner than other countries

Mining cheapest electricity is the last man standing

Yea a buddy of mine actually did an roi in just over 2years by overpeccing panels to battery ratio and mined with excess

(He does second hand pc hardware sales so miming with what he had was a lot easier)

But went of the rails doubling solar system size just before eth went POS

But yea essentially the mining got him a system double the size for the same cost (if you choose that perspective)

He is into second hand pc sales so was just mining with what he had in hand and essentially just postponed the sale

In most cases you can sell the cards

And in some cases he sold them at a premium and just ended up buying new items for a while to mine and then sell 2nd hand when 2nd hand market dried up with mining

Asics not so much, but then again you do cause some guy is willing to buy an inefficient miner cause he is mining with solar that is free
 
I see lots of S9's and look at the price and think to myself do people still buy those at that price

Do they just wait for the suckers or is these prices due to solar miners desperate for a device as dumpload driving demand a bit

If you download the electronic letter of authority on the site, and look at the accepted variations model numbers, it definitely seems to be a rebranded OUKITEL P2001e. So I think it's a really good deal, might even buy one myself..
