Portable Power Stations

Got this today:

Also pulled the trigger.

What swayed me was I saw the River 2 also makes a fair bit of fan noise while charging. People even opening their River 2's and replacing the fans. The Gizzu took forever to charge but at least it was quiet.

So it's only really the externalness of the Bluetti charger thats a negative. Paying in R1k over the Gizzu (refund from recall) and getting a Lifepo4 battery and faster charging. Decent deal I think.

Hi guys please advise as to which power station would suffuce if I wanted to run the following for let's say 4hrs loadshedding.. My requirements are that it would be plugged in permanently like my ups for my router and ont and switch over automatically when LS kick in
1 TV 150 watts
1 x ps4 180 watts
1 x fan(I think 50 watts but not sure
I x lamp for studying-not sure
1 x xiaomi stick.. It says 5 v and 1.5 a.. No idea

Preferably budget is 10k or below

Yeah, good luck with that.
In PPS terms you looking at R20K+

A better option would be a proper inverter + batteries, still gonna cost you over R10K for proper, unless you willing to sacrifice time or some powered items

Yeah, not the right thread, you don't need expensive portable for TV and playstation. You need the mecer thread.

You looking for something like this:

Read this review. Great info and advice.

Its a great unit. Just generally speaking, LiFePO4 is the way to go with these power stations. The unit itself works well and is mostly in-spec, but I had to subtract two stars due to quirkiness, described below.

Would this better

That is in line with what you need if you don't want to change your habits., yes.
But I would shop around for more options, unless you have better specs on that inverter like efficiency and such.

2000wh for R21K vs (Literally unknown specs)
2400wh for R22k vs (Very crappy efficiency rate) Linked above
2400wh for R23K (That is way better) Linked above

PS I do feel if we talking Inverters we rather go somewhere else as this thread is for PPS's

R13k for 512wh (less once you factor in inverter losses) just seems like way too much. I know this is in line with EU pricing, but yeah, I'd rather get a Bluetti EB55 for <R10k even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles.

Edit. Apparently this unit only has about 410wh of actual power due to the less than great inverter, so yeah, very pricey per wh.

Edit 2. Just checked my spreadsheet. River 2 Max works out at R31.70 per true wh while the EB55 works out at R20.92 per true wh. EB55 also has 700w inverter vs the River 2 Max's 500w. Ugh ya, EF's new range of stuff is looking a bit overpriced to say the least. The perks it does have is the super fast charging and the app, but I can manage without those.

When are you updating that spreadsheet of yours? :P

This is not just the case on the new models. I could only get 1517Wh from the Max 2016Wh when I tested mixed usage with a Kill a watt meter. This is even worse than the new River Max. But these tests are not an exact science. I just use it as a general guide line.

No 2 River Max units will get exactly the same result. The cells inside are not all uniform in capacity. And then these meters are also not 100% accurate. Also, the faster you discharge it during the test the worse the numbers will look...

Just be aware the MAX does not function as a UPS correctly (but the Small River 2 does)
I saw that but I would not bargain on the normal River 2 having it either, he may have been lucky with that unit. They are both advertised as EPS which means that there is not a 0ms delay in switching from mains to battery.

This is not just the case on the new models.

Yeah, but the older inverters I think were closer to 80% efficiency compared to 75% on the newer generation, at least for some stuff. Still, so much stuff to keep in mind when buying one of these things...

Ok so since I have now forked out for this EB55 I have a few questions.

I have a few items on one side of the house (CCTV/DVR, LTE Router, 8port switch, Synology and EOP plug).
Then the TV and the FireTV Cube are in the middle of the house.
The above, another EOP and a 3 to 5w led are all I want to run on the PPS.

Will putting a 20-30m extension between be ok?

Think the EOP will work or am I running cat from the one point to the next as well?
