Porting question

i'm not even getting a vodacom port sms.

Went to a Telkom Store on saturday at about 4ish. No sms so unable to port, go to another one on Sunday - same issue. No sms from vodacom.

Popped into one on Monday afternoon, same issue. no sms, this time they just gave me a telkom sim and said to try again.

Tried tuesdya night and STILL no sms from vodacom to allow me to port.

Does porting only work during weekdays and working hours?

Yup! No porting on the weekend and public holidays. Porting only happens during weekdays.

I requested a port tonight from Vodacom to Telkom and all seems to be going well my side. Are you sending a SMS to port?

If that fail let them do it in order on the "order" system so then you get a OTP you need to give the consultant. That one does not fail and ALWAYS works.

I also know for a fact it does work on weekends because I ported my number 8 times already. :)

Going through this now - not sure who is yanking my chain. MTN say that sent me a sms on the 03/08, I never received it. I asked Telkom to re-submit last night and that failed, they have tried to resubmit this morning and according to MTN they haven't received the request as yet. Surly this it can't be that difficult.....

Ha - MTN said I never replied to the SMS so the prevented the port. I did reply. MTN is the peanut in this turd. I have emailed their top knobs, whose email addresses I will supply to anyone else having this problem - I am sick of this shît and maybe if their brass gets enough direct customer emails, they'll fix things.

The SMS to port work very well. Just started the process to port to a Telkom simcard that has been active on the Telkom network for like 1 year already that I never used and the port will happen tonight and got a SMS from Vodacom that the port request to leave their network was approved. :)

So yesterday I ported my MTN prepaid to TM. I sent a porting SMS as instructed by the starter pack. The MTN SIM is still active though - do I have to switch on the TM SIM and leave it on until it takes over? Or do I leave it off until the MTN SIM goes inactive?

Hi GreGorGy ,

Thank you for your post.

Is your porting done?

Kind regards

Yes - eventually got hold of your porting dept and MTN. According to yourselves, I never confirmed the port with MTN. When I included snapshots of me doing exactly that in my email to MTN, they suddenly were able to do it. My advice in future to anyone is once they have lost their cool with MTN, you can rattle the birdcage by emailing executive complaint escalations at MTN. CEO offices hate being interrupted in their busy schedule of settling nigerian fines by annoying prepaid users who want to ditch them.

I'm very confused, do I need to reply 1 to the MTN sms in order for the port to go through or do I just leave it. I have 30 mins in which to do this. Not sure what to do now.

Before it was clear to reply 1 means MTN will cancel but I'm not sure myself now because I have not done a port recently.....

SMS is very vague. I called the call center and they said that because it says "within 30 mins" that I must respond if I want to continue porting out. If I don't respond they will take it as if I'm cancelling the port out. So I replied... SMS was sent at 4:34pm and I replied at 5:02pm, hope that I made it on time.

IF the port declines then just resubmit it and then you know not to reply to the SMS. Will set you back 1 day though but not a major train smash... :)

right so as luck would have it while looking for my MIFI device tonight - I took out the sim and it's a 8ta sim - now I want to port my prepaid mtn number to telkom mobile. can I use this 8ta sim? or must I get a starter pack and rica all over again?

General rule of thumb: you can only port to an unopened sim card that has been RICA'ed, but never inserted into a device.

Not the case with Telkom. You can indeed port to a simcard that has been active for a while as long as your id you request in the port matches the is that was ricad with.
