Postbox Courier - get stuff shipped from the UK

That's one of the main purposes. Amazon doesn't ship a lot of things to SA. (electronics for one)

Items less than a 1KG are like ÂŁ10.99 iirc from their website

One also needs to be aware that it also works on volumetric weights (i.e. it uses volumetric weight if it is larger than actual).

Best thing is to find out the actual dimensions of the parcel, plus the weight, then gooi it into the calculator on the site, and it should be an accurate reflection of what you will end up paying.

So, I could order from Amazon US and have it delivered to my South African address, and not pay VAT? Seriously?! Somebody please confirm...

Well I have just ordered something off Amazon US. It says it will take 2 days to get sent out to my PO Box at Postbox Courier and then should be in JHB by Wednesday next week (could be sooner - the guy I spoke to says he can give me a more accurate time line when they receive the goods on Thursday.). Will keep you posted on the outcome.

What I can say, is so far I have had great service, they are very friendly in answering your questions, even before placing an order which is always good to see.

not a chance, you always have to pay VAT and applicable import duties.

I was just told now that I will pay 14% VAT and that's all as there are no import duties on Computer Parts. They also mentioned something about a High Value clearance fee of ZAR150.00 - so am just waiting to hear back from them on how they calculate that.

correct, no duties on pc parts, your vat is calculated at 110% of the value, or just work on a rate of 15.4%.
all couriers have a clearing fee, its standard, post office charge R25, DHL R100, Fedex just over R200, so R150 is acceptable.

So what was the final charges on the item? Item cost + 15.4% VAT + R150 clearing fee + 10.99gpb to ship?

I'm bumping this thread to allow others to post their experiences with Postbox Courier.

Supaswift fees:

PROC PROCESSING FEE

FFEE DISBURSEMENT
132.25 18.52
29.94 4.19
----------- ----------
162.19 22.71

So it's R162.19 + R22.71 for the privilege of delivering your parcel. It's insane.

You should not say FedEx as it's not Fedex but a local company called SupaSwift. There is no FedEx in South Africa.

Any mention of what value makes it "high value"?

I am in the process of using this courier. Will let you guys know how it goes.

On another note, I think someone on here should offer to redesign their website.

Agreed, but sometimes simple works best...

How did you pay the fees? Do they accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, etc.)?

I bought a boot spoiler for my BMW off ebay and got the seller to ship to Postbox Courier. I got an email on the Tuesday night saying that they have received the package. On Friday morning it was delivered to my house. This is very fast IMO. I paid 51GBP to ship the spoiler to my door and paid no customs charges.

Unfortunately the spoiler was delivered to my house broken in half. I cannot explain how pissed off I was as this is an extremely rare part. I notified Postbox Courier and after a quick investigation they refunded me in full - cost of spoiler + cost of shipping to courier + courier to CPT. I dealt with a guy by the name of Gary and he was very helpful and professional.

The verdict - while everything didn't go exactly as I would have liked I will still use this company again just because of the level of service that I received from Gary. I'm already hunting for another spoiler :)
