Postbox Courier - get stuff shipped from the UK

You can only pay with EFT. They don't accept CCs. Maybe if you have an account with them then they would.

Which is strange because for sending stuff, I used CC before.

They don't do COD as they did before but still call their department "COD". COD sticker also gets stuck to the box. Idiots.

Regarding this ^^

I contacted them and was told that I would be charged a 7% Valorem charge on top of the 14% VAT since it is a luxury item (Cellphone).

Could anybody confirm this?

Ordered something today via Postbox-Courier.com. I'll post here what I paid in total when I receive the item.
 
Okay cool,

I am interested to know what people have had to pay when importing electronics like phones.

Some people say u only have to pay VAT on 110% of the items value while others say you also have to pay a 7% Valorem fee on top of that aswell :/

Besides the glitch (all be it major) that's very encouraging news!

I've not found anything worth my while or that I need from the UK just yet, though thinkgeek.com is having a helluva sale! :D
 
Problem with forwarders like this one and MyUS is that not all shops will ship to those. Usually your credit card billing and shipping address has to match. The same happens with PayPal. Amazon allows for discrepancies but most other shops do not. In fact Amazon is the only exception to this general rule that I know of. Some shops also say they don't ship to known freight forwarders for export. Other alternatives are to use shopping services like Noppin, which actually make the purchase for you from the seller or shop and then forward the item to your location. They're more expensive though.

This service can forward US consignments too. The address is in NY though so you may have to pay extra sales tax though.

BTW ThinkGeek stuff can usually be bought cheaper on Ebay.

MyUS can pay for your shopping on your behalf, but despite that I've always managed to get any billing address mismatch errors corrected by contacting a human and explaining what was happening.

I've used MyUS with Amazon.

Interesting because PayPal will not insure sellers who ship to non PayPal confirmed addresses.
Likewise AVS is used to help reduce fraud. Fraudsters would just call in and explain they need the package shipped to their aunt for repackaging and forwarding. And how does the seller know where this freight forwarder will forward the package? He's essentially screwed if I'm using a stolen credit card with him with a legitimate Post-box courier account.

Where sellers agreed to process such transactions they wanted front/back scan/copy of the credit card and sometimes passport/photo ID too. I'm surprised that a simple Skype or Telephone call would convince people to ship to a forwarder.

Which companies, if I may ask, allow shipping to non-billing addresses (other than Amazon)?
 
I see that replica weapons are on the prohibited list. Do any of you guys have prior experience with importing something like that? I dont want customs to confiscate the item. I am looking at buying the Frostmourne sword from Epic Weapons.
 
Anybody know what's happening with Postbox Courier? They aren't taking orders anymore.

What alternatives has everyone else been using?
 
Just used postbox courier for delivery from the UK, phenomenal cheap, fast and reliable.

2 smallish parcels delivered to their UK offices on Friday - value was over R400 so customs was applicable and I had the parcels in my hands Monday afternoon, including paying clearing etc - can't get faster than that, basically overnight from the UK, great service, and cost for both parcels only 21 pounds.

The problem with Royal Mail is that it comes to SA in a couple of days then goes to SAPO and then takes 6 weeks or more and might get stolen etc. This place you ship to them that side and they stick it on a plane (they are located next to heathrow) then courier it to you here. When I looked at the rates for Royal Mail and compared to the calculator on this site it worked out to about half the price (bargain!).

Anyway so I used them and am quite impressed. My friend posted the parcel to them on friday and I had it in my hands tuesday (delivered to my office so no having to mission to the post office and queue etc).

Anyways, just never seen them mentioned before here and I'm sure quite a few people could make use of their services (and no I'm not affliated with them in any way).

So you think ordering from a store/ebay for pc parts and shipping it via postbox would be fine?
