contraire... it has everything to do with the amount you pay.
it's critical that the thing is overpriced in order for the groupthink effect to be reinforced.
fear, greed and laziness. marketing aimed at these human traits will always succeed.
I agree completely. What I meant was I'd still call you an idiot no matter what you paid for it.
It's a double edged sword this one:
Scenario 1: You pay just a few bucks for the thing.
My conclusion: You're an idiot to believe the claims in the first place, and a double idiot for thinking that something with the improvements claimed by Power Balance would actually sell for only a few bucks if it were true.
Scenario 2: You pay hunders of bucks for the thing.
My conclusion: You're an idiot to believe the claims in the first place, and a double idiot for paying that amount of money for something without actually doing some research or just using common ****ing sense.
And to those who think no harm done, I don't think you realize how much cash these people are bull****ting people out of. There's a lot of more useful things we could have done with that. Idiot tax seems to be getting more and more expensive these days.
I'm not much of a charity nut, but surely donating money for a worthy cause is much better than trying to convince yourself you were doing the right thing by taking a chance with a stupid piece of plastic...
And then, once again I want to re-iterate exactly what enigma243 said, for me this just sums it up perfectly:
"I believe people have a responsibility to themselves and to society at large to be as non-idiotic as individually possible. When people shy away from this responsibility I get annoyed."
In my case though, annoyance is a vast understatement. To me these bracelets are like a little window that peers into one of the biggest reasons humanity tends to screw up eventually.
A world filled with skepticism and critical thought would be so much better. It's true though, we all have our stupid beliefs and biases, but this little "test" is so simple it just boggles the mind that people living in the "age of information" can still be so ignorant
What also interests me: We can't use the typical "unwashed/uneducated masses" response to this one, oh no, the people buying this **** are mostly educated, employed, middle to upper class people.
The hypocrisy of some "white" people to criticize "stupid", "uneducated" people for supporting Malema and/or the ANC while sitting there clutching their Powe Balance bracelet is astounding. In fact, it's worse when you have the means and intelligence not to be taken for a ride and you still manage to fall into the trap.
(Sorry, I don't want to turn this into politics, just couldn't think of a better example right now)
