Ya it will be interesting. In todays briefing one of the journalists asked this question and they just shrugged it off by saying some plants can’t be taken off the maintenance plan so quickly . Maybe they will burn more diesel .
You know they only have so many diesel OCGTs right? Can't burn more if they are already using them.

Colder weather not expected to hit the whole country, seems just a few degrees for the early mornings in Gauteng.
Already 16 degrees here today :-o

Talking of weather, doesn't look like any rain up here for September..

Amazing how for so long, even under the threat of winter, basically no units went down... yet here we are, again...

Anyway as long as they don't go above 4 then it's just 2 hour sessions.

It is rather peculiar. Has the money run out to pay off the looters / saboteurs ?

Think we will be stuck in Stage 4/5/6 during peak time until some Kusile units come online again (November / December).

Delayed maintenance can be a bitch. Less repairs in Winter to keep things running, more repairs undertaken supposedly in the warmer months due to less demand and more renewables. But there is a point in the curve ( we need a equivalent Laffer curve here ) where you just can't balance the two because not enough redundancy.

Normally you would make sense here, but we're in SA, and we're dealing with Eskom ANC

...aaand time for my "contribution" to lights out.

There are warnings today of rough seas and galeforce winds off KZN as well as snowfall on the berg.
Yeah but we all know that only when GP is effected does Eskom cry :-)

Power alert doesn't really seem to justify the change to Stage 4 at 12, but anyway.
