Oya Energy (Pty) Ltd will own and operate the 128 MW plant near the town of Matjiesfontein, straddling the Western and Northern Cape Provinces. The Oya Energy Hybrid Facility falls within the Komsberg Renewable Energy Development Zone (REDZ), as Gazetted on 16 February 2018 (GN 114)
The 128MW Oya Energy Hybrid Facility will offer dispatchable renewable energy for the RMIPPPP programme. The Project will utilise co-located wind turbines, solar PV arrays, Lithium-Ion batteries and a hybrid controller that orchestrates all three technologies to provide dispatchable power to the grid as and when needed.
- The Hybrid Project has a total contracted dispatchable capacity of 128MW.
• Wind: 86.4MW
• Solar PV:155MWp bi-facial solar PV modules
• Battery: 94MW / 242MWh- Construction of the Oya Energy Hybrid Facility should start end of 2023 with a fast-tracked completion date of no longer than 18 months thereafter to help ease South Africa’s power crisis.
True. I do think these newer projects which include storage are big step up on those earlier solar-only ones though. I think Eskom now only wants to sign PPAs for projects which can consistently supply from 5am to 9pm which makes sense.A disappointing amount of power...at max output, only 1/10th of a stage of LS.![]()

What we need to do is build CCGTs, use natural gas. As you can run CCGTs all the time, you just ramp up or down, in fact they are the base of the English power grid

I thought the fields are depleted, that’s why petrosa closed down.Hook it up to parliament, sure there is enough there

Before my dad retired, he used to work for one of SA's petroleum companies and he told me a story that Petro SA once expressed interest in purchasing them but early on, Petro SA realised they didn't even have the cash available so the deal was quickly called off. Basically it was a waste of everybody's time.Petrosa exists today for those hairdresser diesel contracts to eskom.
