TotalEnergies previously discovered two huge gas fields off the South African coast in 2019 and 2020. Its current area of interest covers 10,000km2 and is located between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas, in water depths between 700 metres and 3,200 metres.

Aren't they facing challenges from the Green Brigade though? Remember they tried (but failed I think) to shoot down the proposed 3000MW gas plant that is to be constructed off Richard's Bay.
 
Quite sure that wind has got a good future here too.
Expensive and resources-taxing currently but with enough use these technologies will develop of course.

My fav for transport is Hydrogen, but slow in coming. I think BMW made a car recently.

Yup the green brigade, happy to spread giant fans and glass everywhere, but when it comes to actual power they have hissy fits.

Hydrogen is expensive, we do have the cleanest power source at the moment, but the greenies also don't like it due to many misconceptions spread.

There's been some progress on hydrogen recently, it seems (and Sasol planning to run its 60 MW electrolyser with some solar/wind so it can sell it as renewable/green hydrogen) :

I'm a bit sceptical in terms of it taking off for small cars, but for trucks (or maybe longer term storage of variable renewables) maybe it has a role. Companies that need hydrogen (eg chemical industry) and want to avoid carbon tariffs in future will probably be lining up to buy Sasol's production.

Technically you don't trust cadre-types with Nuclear, as there is the nuclear board that it all needs to go through, though I guess we could be like China and just do it.

BTW, my Grand Aunt used to be the editor of the Nuclear Active magazine here, so no stranger to the tech and have been some sort of fan 4eva

Yeah I started to become more of a fan when I did some work for Pebble Beach, just networking stuff, but seeing some of the ideas. Plus slowly realising that solar and wind are actually not the answer presently.
Really pity that things like Greenpeace almost killed it

South Africa has a stockpile of highly enriched uranium, seems no one has yet been tempted to do anything nefarious.

Incompetence and indifference are potentially just as bad. Consider that there has been a successful burglary at Pelindaba nuclear research facility, which should be one of the most secure sites in the country.
 
@Lupus , what I'm seeing with the schedules;

S3/4 = 3/3 = 2/2 for the next few days for us too. But as a 3/4 or 3/3 consideration better than it used to be, which is why I don't mind it anymore...

It's always pretty much been like that. Though with the new schedules sometimes CP maybe kind enough to not have an evening shed at stage 1/2 like they used to, reserving it for the 3/4.
Whereas in the past it would be that 3/4 slots would be more around the mornings and afternoons, with stage 1/2 around the evenings, so that even if we did get a stage 2/3 scenario we'd be almost at stage 3 anyway. It has improved a bit, but it really does depend on the area, as ours was more like stage 4 at 3/4 and now more like 3 at the 2/3 thing.
They also have this annoying habit of shifting the times, so today you'd be 2 to 4pm, but tomorrow you're 4 to 6, which they say was to give people a break on the same times, problem is this causes havoc on stages higher then 4.
Cause now you're off for 4 days for 4 hours at the same time every morning and every night.
