Where the money would come from, is not a given, in the case of independent coal-fired energy plants.

There are lots and lots of wealthy people starved of legal protection of privacy of property, abroad. These are people who do not want to cozy up to their government for privileged market access. They want zero legal uninvited 3rd-party interference/confiscation.

The world is starved of protection of capital.

I suspect this is what gives the politically connected class nightmares about independence supporters. They stand to have their privilege disrupted, and to have to compete on an equal legal footing for customers.

Solar and battery is cheaper than coal. They just need to add a few more batteries then the job is done.

A ton more batteries, plus they'd need to take into account cloudy weather, plus the space required.
Pity SMRs aren't easily and cheaply available thanks to greenies thinking solar and wind is the answer.
One SMR takes about the size of a small factory, in that area you could easily put it far enough from town, need more power add another one to the same plant. 200MW in a small space, plus it's EAF is 90%. Solar with batteries can't get that still

What do you think Orania's demand is? Good luck buying an SMR. Lets live in the real world for a sec and work with what we've got.

They should rather just have every house fitted with panels, batteries and gas. That would help immensely and save costs.

He's right about the cost.

The price of SMR's - whatever that is :giggle: - is almost certainly artificially high if there is gov intervention in that market.

Isn't that what they're doing? No need for gas as you have to import that all the time.

How would you know if that was not overpriced?

What would be the signs and indicators, that that $500 million was a fair price?
