Thanks for your advice IC, as good as everI recommend the Huawei E220, which is a tiny USB modem that does HSDPA [up to 3.6Mbits/s] & vanilla-3G & EDGE & GPRS, which means that when Vodacom & MTN upgrade from 1.8Mbits/s HSDPA to 3.6Mbits/s HSDPA, you would have a modem that works at the higher speed. There is one possible downside to the E220, the Huawei s/w doesn't appear to be geared towards ICS, and even doing a switch user in XP causes a disconnect, but the [post=219998]E220 does work in Linux[/post] without any special drivers, and the connection can obviously be shared using Linux as well...

Yes I know there is a sticky on this but it is 47 pages and has gone off topic.
I have been with MTN for a long time now and in my area (Muizenburg to Simons Town) they only have GPRS. VC has 3G here, that is why I want to migrate.
Went to VC4U at Longbeach mall yesterday to enquire and got blank stares from them.
