Vodacom’s new reduced mobile data options and tariffs are available to all Vodacom Contract, and Prepaid and Top Up customers, from 1 April 2007.

This reduced data tariff will apply to ALL Vodacom customers, including:

*customers who currently subscribe to a 24 month data contract package,
*customers who wish to subscribe to a new 24 month data contract package, or
*customers who wish to bolt a data bundle onto their existing subscription.

Most

I have checked again. Under my account, no data bundles option. Under modify services, SMS bundles listed but no Data bundles. It is under modify services that I can subscribe to ad hoc bundles on my 1gig 3G contract.

I think it's only for PURE prepaid connections, not TOP-UP.
TOP-UP is a hybrid contract account.
I've checked with a second prepaid sim I have and I can assure you it's all legit,
no April's fool **** here, guys. Well unless Vodacom is having us for just today. But there's gonna be hell to pay if it's gone tomorrow.

Well, on my prepaid sim if I dial *111# and go to bundle purchases, there is the option to either buy 500 MB for R189, 1 GB for R289 or 3 GB for R389. I don't think this is an April fool's joke!

I also get the 3 options when using my prepaid and Topup sim. The 3 options is also available on my prepaid sim on Vodacom4me but not available for my Topup sim on Vodacom4me. Don't know why - surely if it's available on the cellphone for Topup (by dialing *111#) it should be available on Vodacom4me as well.

Any ideas how the other smaller bundles will be available ?

VC's gonna MILK us for a while with only those three options. See, it doesn't pay in the long run to bitch and moan about stuff. :)

So more technical questions:

How does these prepaid bundles work exactly? Do you get them immediately? Do they run for 30 days from date of purchase [as opposed to CALENDAR MONTHS] ? i.e. like MTN ?

How exactly do you load them, just load airtime, load them and then its deducted from your airtime balance like MTN?

I checked the *111# option and indeed for my topup account I am able to select data bundles. When I however want to load a 500MB bundle, I get the message a error occured and I must try later.

My Topu 135 account was one that I bought from Smartcall and it was since transferred to Vodacom SP. I paid R999 up front for a Nokia 1101 and the contract and is receiving R135 per month. A total of R3240 worth of airtime and a phone for only R999. If I am able to load a 500MB bundle at R189, this will in effect translates to only R58.28 per 500MB or R0.1165 per MB

R3240 works out to 36c/meg @ R189 per 512MB, which is normal.
