Hi All

Its not easy opening up about this, but I could really use some advice.

I was recently raped by someone I once considered a friend. I found out that she had drugged my drink and proceeded to have her way with me once I had passed out. I have also recently discovered that she is pregnant and is now alleging that I am the father. This has been a complete emotional upheaval for me and I am trembling with fear as a write this post. I want hard proof that this kid is mine and I want to get a prenatal paternity test done. I see prices range anywhere from R18k - 22k. Does anyone know of any labs/other institutions which offer this test at a lower price?

Big on you for opening up. Not many guys open up about rape experiences as there is that preconceived notion that it makes us less manly somehow. Unfortunately, prenatal tests are extremely expensive. the only other option is waiting until the child is born and then doing a regular DNA test. I looked at all of the options when my ex had an affair.

SHE has to prove you are the father...so SHE has to pay for tests.

How did you find out she drugged and raped you?

Sorry you went through the trauma of being raped :crying:

If you have the money just pay so you know for sure.

At least you won't have the uncertainty and 9 months is a long time to be worrying about whether you're a father or not.

I've heard that prenatal tests can cause complications for the baby, so it's better to wait until birth.
The old invasive ones were a little dangerous. The newer ones are non-invasive and perfectly safe for everyone involved.

All of these appear to be <R5k

The first link is for a book ;) The second one is the only correct one being prenatal and is almost R19K, the third is a standard mail-in DNA test which would only be possible after birth.

Thanks for the help Skeptic, but I see the sub R5k prices are for paternity tests which are done after the child has been born. Will keep looking.

OK, I'll say/ask this again:

SHE must prove you're the father...just saying it is your child is not enough.

So SHE must pay for any paternity test, not you.

He wants to know before the child is born which makes it his responsibility to check. There is no need for her to prove the child is his until after the child is born and if she is planning to request maintenance etc.
