Prepaid subscriber data bundles

top up vodacom is also a noshow

That was the case on 31 March when you stated it. From 1 April Vodacom do have PPDB available on their topup contracts and what is more, you can use the inclusive amount towards the databundles, unlike MTN that is not allowing the use of the inclusive amounts.

MTNDD

I asked in a previous email when MTN will change to be able to fully compete with Vodacom, you still have not answered.

It just doesn't make sense to limit the low-end user's usage like this, especially in a third-world country.

Low-end users have a habit of not staying in that category for long, once they have realized what this technology can do for them.

After that, the word travels fast.

Hi

What speed do you get on the mtn data bundle on prepaid as it is called "GPRS data bundles" on there webpage, and if I'm not mistaken this is only a bit faster than a modem?

Thinking of buying the e220 modem and then just use a prepaid card. Still need to deside between mtn and vodacom.

Thank you
Walti

GPRS can go up to approx twice as fast as an analog modem. Edge is a lot better...
A E220 will help, provided you have good coverage. Check your MTN and Vodacom coverage before deciding. Coverage maps are not that accurate; run a test if possible (even if you can just borrow a 3G capable phone and check for 3G reception).

When you select a data-bundle, the MTN computer states that it is for GPRS & 3G, so the speed you are getting depends on the signal strength, and if you are within 3G/HSDPA coverage. Your handset must obviously also be 3G/HSDPA compatible.

Hey All,

Just been reeading your MTN forum, i'm going to put in my two scents worth. and as you know, that buys nothing.

Firstly, I think MTN has been largely narrow minded and slow on the up take when it comes to caring for pre paid users. I do not want to be put into a position when I have to take a second contract to surf the net, hence I like complete control when it comes to surfing, if I run out, i have bought additional sim cards, but why must I do this, while i'm trying to work out what my useage will be for a month, as you know, some months are more than others.
I found this an incredible waste of money, and frustration, never mind confusing with 6 sims lying around.
secondly, every time i want to load a bundle, i have to remove the sim, from my card, and my phone to phone in to do this????? it's repetively annoying.
thirdly, when you do phone in to find your data bundle balance, this is double hidden by the points that you have accumulated ??? dudes, I WANT MY DATA BUNDLE balance, I don't give a rats *** about yellow points man, this is a two year thing!!! Please where on earth can I go to find my data bundle balance??? not on the website, and you can't phone in for them either??

I have just bought a E220 from vodafone, almost 1000 rand cheaper than MTN were selling them for, I now have a prepaid vodacom card, I can go online ANYTIME to check my data usage! the software, gives me a slight indication on usage too.. I can load multiple data bundles a month, I'm in no way thinking about how much data, and how I should be careful not to use it all, vodacom is getting more money out of me now, then MTN! and with WAY less frustration! Sorry MTN, I've been waiting for along time for you to get your game on, I got tired of waiting...

I think MTN needs to rethink their strategy for data bundles in a big way, as much as MTN want ppl to buy larger bundles so you can keep the money on rollover... you are probably losing more money as ppl are buying less.. 6 of one, half a dozen of another.. People want to manage thier stuff.. give us the oppurtunity!

Take care all..
