Pretoria vs Cape Town

Yes another relocation tread.

I'm currently living in Pretoria and have been offered a job in Cape Town and I'm really not sure what to do. The money is about the same, could get more if I negotiate but I'm not so much financially motivated as I am in terms of quality of life.

I have a few friends in CT so I wouldn't be entirely lonely. The thing is that i recently bought a place in PTA. That's holding me back as well as my hobby (i'd rather not divulge) which could become my career is pretty big I'm Gauteng but not so much on Cape Town.

As for the job, it's pretty much a similar job spec as I have here in PTA. I've been in a rut regarding my job for the past year or so that's why I'm not sure about accepting another job of the same type just somewhere else, unless maybe the change of scenery motivates me?

Anyone lived in both cities or been in a similar situation and can give some insights?
 
If the money is the same, I'd opt for CT in a heartbeat. But as you say, it's not that simple.
 
Abzo has a hobby.. in PTA that makes him want to stay in PTA...

IF you can find a decent renter or rental agency that can make sure you do not have hooligans. CPT. PTA is not a bad town. Love my town. But I would love to try our CPT.

What are good areas to live in near Pinelands?

My biggest concern is that I'll be paying for a bond in PTA and rent in Cape Town.

As for the hobby, let's say you're in a band in Gauteng and you leave to CT, something like that.

If you're into hobbies you can't divulge then Cape Town is just the place for you :D

Haha I didn't even get tukkies hotties while I was studying at tukkies :P

I find the women in CT much friendly than in PTA and that's one of the pro's of moving to CT for me. Especially since I'm single so I don't really have any commitments in PTA besides my family and dogs.
 
Rent out your current place in PTA and hop on the first plane you can to CT.

Life is too short to regret. You should always try new experiences.

I staying with my siblings in PTA, we're splitting the bond. I really do want to move, I'm all for new experiences (might even consider the furries someday :D).

What I'm concerned about is job security. Been at my current job for almost 4 years now. I'm comfortable where I am. Which is good and bad. I'm not progressing much where I am because I'm lazy. I've managed to coast along though. I don't want to end up in the same situation that I'm in here in CT.

There are 3 woman for every man in CT, every woman will be nice to you "just in case".

Married now but can't believe I wasted so much time in GP.

Trust me man, plenty of "bands" down here.
 
Moved from Pretoria to Cape Town about 7 months ago. I live in Durbanville.

I am enjoying the Cape a lot but in my case I have a GF and 90% of my friends are still in Pta :(

Seeing as you have friends here I would say why not give it a bash and see what happens.

Why would you not be able to still do your hobby if you had to move?

If you really can't then you will have to make a choice as to how important the hobby is to you.
 
Made the move 2 years ago, sold everything, currently renting in CT.
Wish I did it sooner, this place has quality of life, hot chicks, awesome beer and a big mountain thingy.

On a more serious note... I was in the same situation before I moved down, coasting not really going anywhere.

When I was relocated I had to justify my position and have had to learn all this new stuff, massive career move.

Lol, i still prefer the Pretoria people :)
 
I cam still continue my hobby in CT, it's just that the industry is much smaller.

What i'm most worried about is job security, I currently have that in PTA and not sure how it will be in CT. Also my family don't want me to move but they've always been very overprotective. I guess you do have to take risks sometimes. I'm always up for new adventures.

Right now 70% chance of me taking the job.
