Primary school condom plan shock

You can never start too young

Well if it seems to be working I don't see the problem. Just pretty messed up that such young kids are having sex

Complete moral decay and absentee parents :(

On the condom story, I remember we were given sex education in Std 5 ( dunno what grade that is, silly system ) and that was in '92. The reason why I think is that as kids, most of us were experiancing puberty and I actually remember it as a bit of a stressful time, especially the girls who had their first periods. How would you explain it without explaining sex ed? And how can you have sex ed without condoms around?

As to the rape thing, as I understand the law, sex with a minor, or by minors even if consensual is statatory rape if one of the parties is younger than 16.

What 9 year old fits into a standard condom .... or do they now make Durex Junior ?!

Stop bringing that up dave I told you I was holding the box for my younger brother!

Those poor kids are gonna need the condoms... the way this ANC government keeps screwing everybody in the country!

bugger that. They should reversibly sterilise ALL kids until they turn 25.

This accursed moral decay.

We need to go back to the good old days where we had no concept of human rights and we stoned people to death or my personal favourite Draw and Quartering. Heck lets bring slavery back to stop our obvious moral decay, we were so much more moral back when we permitted slavery.

Pre Civil Rights Movement and the fall of Apartheid too. Lets bring back Apartheid, we were far more moral when we were kicking the crap out of other race groups! Moral racism FTW! :D

Sometimes I think people forget about how recently all these things happened when they talk about our "complete moral decay".

Wow, everything is black and white with you hey? You can't decouple one thing from another? You can't see shades of grey? I feel sorry for you, sort of. You really think society as a whole is more moral now than it was 20 years ago?

Considering that 20 years ago we were living under Apartheid yes definitely.

All things considered Apartheid was far worse than some kids messing about sexually. One is a conscious denial of the humanity of others the other is just kids exploring their sexuality. Would I like the kids to lay off until they are old enough to understand the implications? Indeed I would. However it isn't even close to being comparable to the horrors visited upon humanity by Apartheid.

You are honestly attempting to argue that we were more moral as a society when we allowed the murder of people because of the colour of their skin or imprisoned just because they wanted equality with their fellow man? Are you insane?

They are dealing with the reality of a very real crisis, the amount of primary school pregnancy, abortion and aids is sick. There are 280000 infants and children under 14 living with HIV, I am sure many of these do not know and so end up infecting other children.
If many of them do not know where did the figure come from?

As far as I was aware you were not allowed to test anyone without permission.

Do you really think children at that age would be willing to tell someone they can't do it because they have HIV? They would get an instant stigma at school and be victimised.

I got the numbers from a unicef report on the net, if you prefer a more local source www.statssa.gov.za/publications/P0302/P03022011.pdf
An estimated 63 600 new HIV infections will be among children aged 0–14 years.
That is for 2011 (estimated new infections only).

"Today's children are more advanced than a decade ago, and are exposed to sexual content and connotations from the age of five," he said.
