I'm looking for a printer solution for our small office, I guess 80% mono(black/white) and 20% colour printing, not more than lets say 100 - 200 pages per month, multifunction with scan and copy will be a bonus but not at all esential, I think ethernet connectivity will help a lot and wifi printing will be a bonus.
I did some reading and price comparisons, but I'm even more confused now between inkjet and laser, cost per page, the most economical choice in the long run etc.
Firstly brands, HP is probably the best known and a lot of people say go for nothing else than HP. Then there's Cannon and Samsung jumping up everyware but I'm a little weary of those because I don't know their printers and I heard the ink and laser toners are quite expensive. Then I also see the Ricoh brand popping up everyware, but I don't know it at all, are they any good? I saw a suggestion someware to go for 2 seprit printers if mostly only printing mono, something like going for a pritty decent printer for the black, maybe even laser, then buying a cheapy for the colour, something you can chuck and replace easily if it packs up. So for my situation maybe a pritty decent multi function mono printer to have copy and scan, then a cheapy colour printer.

Any ideas, experience with the above brands?

Hi using two off these one as backup in office and one at home . Remember the cartridge coming with machine is 50 percent full . Should you buy new stock get the XL Black cartridge

How much printing do you get out of a black XL cartridge, is it close to the 3200 pages as claimed by HP?

Here is something to consider

HP Colour LaserJet Pro M175A 100 Multi-Function Printer

This printer is really good value for money as it is a Colour laser printer but a slightly older model but the great thing about this printer is that patent on the cartridges have expired which means you can now easily get generic toner cartridges at a fraction of the price of the OEM

We managed to get our hands on 280 brand new units and clearing them as really good price this week on our Rainbow Week Deals , this will be last of these printers

The new model is over R 1000 excl more and you still stuck for the next three years buying Original Cartridges

EDIT just checked stock and we have 73 units left and we only got these in on Monday

also consider who does after sales support, stay away from PartServe if you can

It used to be strictly HP only. HP printers are not quite what they used to be though. Take a Canon multi function mono. Just buy refilled toner at inkdrop, less than R400 each time. Colour, I use a Canon multifunction so cannot recommend a colour single function printer.

Using the following mono multifunction Canon:
