Problem with Marantz PM53 Amplifier

I have a problem with my Marantz PM53 amplifier (vintage I know! ).

After I switch it on, the protection circuit 'clicks' in cutting the sound to the speakers after a few seconds and then this continues on and off for the next few hours. After some time it settles and the sound is played continuously through the speakers.

In the past this protection system 'kicked' in when there was short circuit at the speakers - that is why it is there - I have even disconnected the speakers (KEF) from the amp and it still is clicking in and out while it is 'cold'.

Does anybody know of a good repair shop in Pretoria where I can take this too to get it fixed?

You could first try to see if any of the Marantz experts can diagnose the problem by asking a question on one of the appropriate bulletin boards etc. or possibly the service centre at Marantz. This might be a common fault with this particular model.

You might also be able to get hold of a service manual if you search for Marantz PM53 service manual on Google.

Thanks Yotch! I have tried the service manual search via Google before I posted this question but could find other models but not the PM53. There is no service centre for Marantz in South Africa (according to Marantz website). I saw only authorised reseller in Pretoria in Menlyn...will contact them to find out...

PM me your email address and I will send you the service manuals for the PM-47/50/54/57/64 models as I'm pretty sure the protection circuit is pretty similar between models or enough for you to come to some sort of conclusion.
