Will a standard 8ta voice sim be able to get this deal or do I need to buy a data simcard?

Will I be able to use 8ta's network or will it still roam on MTN?

8ta Internet 5 Promo and 10 GB Midnight Surfer

No, you will not be able to use your existing 8ta SIM. You will need to sign a new 24 month contract with a new 8ta SIM.

This offer will only be offered on 8ta’s network and is dependent on 8ta’s coverage areas.

Users will not be able to roam on MTN like the normal Data users.

what docs do you need to sign up ? id, payslip, 3 month bank statement, proof of address ???

To sign a contract you will require the following documentation:
• Three months bank statements
• Latest payslip
• SA identification document
• Proof of residence – a utility bill with your home address on it

What do I need if I am self employed? Payslip doesn't exist

If you are self employed, you will need to submit 3 months bank statements and the registered ck documents.

Are these all in the price range listed on the announcement?

"8ta’s price for a 7.2Mbps modem is R349 while a 21Mbps costs R699."
We have more than one channel and they do add their own mark up.

If you are self employed, you will need to submit 3 months bank statements and the registered ck documents.

Sorry forgot to mention I am an insurance broker and trade as a sole proprietor. Most places want 6 months from me. Would this suffice?

This case is unique, please send me your details.

Not looking to take the deal immediately for myself. Might be useful for my mom that's why I am interested. I need significantly more off peak data.

But this info would be useful should other sole proprietors or self employed guys want a contract. Till this special I didn't even consider you folks a viable network.

In a nutshell I can give you all the bank statements you want but no payslip or ck docs etc.

Hi 8ta got a question how will telkom distinguish between you accessing a 8ta tower vs MTN towers ?

This is the bit that confuses me, im very excited about this offer and would sign in a heartbeat if it works

I have a 8ta sim but I just read now you need to apply again.

So if this is mobile broadband say im at home accessing a 8ta tower and i go to work where there are no 8ta towers do i revert back to piggybacking off MTN and if so how will it be charged then

Lastly where can I check for signal your coverage maps give a general 3G coverage but how do i know thats not coverage from an MTN tower ?

This data deal works exclusively off 8ta's own network. It will not piggyback off MTN at all.

@ MickeyD - How do you know all this? Most Towers in my area are non 8ta towers and I do not stay in the sticks. Does this mean that the "biggest" Telecom provider in SA cannot give me signal? I seriously doubt it.

There's more detail on TechCentral:

The offer will only work in areas where Telkom has built 8ta towers and will not work in areas where the company relies on roaming partner MTN for coverage. 8ta has almost 1 000 active mobile broadband base stations across the country, and has said it will have more than 2 000 by March next year.

Basically, one should stay away from them for now I suppose ?
