Project Linobuntu

I'm not a Gnome man, frankly put, I hate Gnome. KDE, E17 and fluxbox are my styles!

Looks nice though, almost like Windows Vista...

Looking good bru.

Thank you:D

Ouch man ouch,:p

I used to hate Gnome until last year. I supposed I have just gotten used to it, but I prefer it with KDE applications. Hence Linobuntu.

What will probably happen with Linobuntu Version 1. I'll keep the current look, same theme and icons etc. Then for the second release Linobuntu Version 2 (which will be based on Ubuntu 8.10) it will have a completely new look.

"However Linombuntu Version 2 is still a long way away. Still have to finish Version 1."

Thanks for the comments guys.

Well Alpha 2 is currently being build. After testing there were some bugs with Alpha 1. Including one that removed Vista's bootloader:eek:

Found the problem, so that has been fixed. Not to mention Pulse Audio would crash for no apparent reason.

Alpha 2 is focuses on adding some more applications and fixing the current bugs in Alpha 1.

Alpha 2 Screenshots coming later

The good news is that Alpha 2, is finished. So far the performance is miles ahead of Alpha 1. The bugs found in Alpha 1 have been fixed. For this release I chose not to add any new software or features to it. Just a bug fix.

However Alpha 3, a lot more software and improvements can be expected.

Linobuntu reminds me of ubuntustudio and opensuse... the theme being US and the control panel being OS.

I must admit it does look like a combination of the two. However that was not done on purpose though.

General Remarks about Alpha 3:

Linobuntu Alpha 3 is miles ahead of both Alpha 1 and 2. The performance, Pulse Audio, and GRUB issues have been resolved.

Using Picasa 3 while using Linobuntu in live mode, is terribly slow. Therefore in Alpha 4 it will be recommended to not use Picasa 3 while the live cd is running.

Some graphical issues, the Usplash screen, is still "Ubuntu" default. There are plans to have this changed for Alpha 4. Also when the live cd starts up, there is currently a default screen which states that Remastersys was used. It is also on the cards to rather have a Linobuntu splash instead.

There is a slight delay after logging in and loading the desktop. During this time the default "brown/orange" screen is shown. Currently working on altering the screen to rather being black.

Yeah well of course not. You did something that you liked. It looks cool though. I actually installed the US theme on my ubuntu installation once because I liked the theme. I changed the all-black to something a little easier on the eyes but in the end.... I liked it.

Some fantastic news: (Not only have we gone from Alpha 2 to Alpha 4 in one day:eek:)

Alpha 4 has the following fixed.

Usplash screen has been changed to "Linobuntu"
No more orange/brown image it is now a black screen. It blends in quite nicely.

Also, for those of you who have a 5.1 Surround Sound setup. If you want your music to play from all speakers (example an mp3 etc) then just select the volume level in volume control.

No further configuration is needed.

Next release will be a public beta. All I need now is somewhere to host it

Hi Linoman,

I am all for custom distros, etc and if you would like it to be hosted internationally, let me know and I would be happy to sponsor you an account on our new GigeNet equipment.

Just don't use 1TB of transfer, ok ^^

Thank you for the offer. PM sent

Just an update thanks to Raven Servers or rather Peerlevel hosting. Linobuntu will have its own self hosted blog, not giving you all the latest news but you will also be able to download Linobuntu Version 1 from there.

Considering the fact I thought this would never get off the ground. I am quite impressed with everyone and their help.

This project in a short amount of time has really progressed. Tuesday is the day the beta version of Linobuntu Version 1 will be available for download.
