Proline 400w PSU - Burning odour

Purchased a Proline 400w PSU which had a slight burning odour on the first boot up, so checked everything was 100% after reboot & it continued to have a burning odour albeit slightly less.

Anyone experienced this with PSU's or Proline units? It was installed on an old Pentium 4 hence the entry level PSU.

Feedback appreciated ;)
 
Make sure that the PSU fan is spinning. I would guess that some of the components might produce a slight smell if they are still new and getting reasonably hot. If the smell gets worse ver the next week or two though you should investigate further.
 
smells like is going to blow, generic psu's is bad, and will die sometime :P

get yourself a corsair then you know it wont happen :P

Some electronic components do have a smell when used for the first time. As pointed out above, if it continues for more then a few days you can start to be worried.
 
Thanx for the replies - agreed if it continues longer than a days I'll be back to the distributor in a flash...
 
Could open it up and make sure a bug or something hasn't found it's way into a spot it shouldn't be.

Though I will add Proline makes total garbage, at least when it comes to PSU. Will never buy another Proline PSU no matter what, infact it's been so bad I don't think I'll ever buy anything from Proline again just to be safe.
 
I recently purchased a 500w Proline psu, also smells bad, but getting better every day(or maybe I am getting used to the odour?)...

Many new components smell bad for a while though!
