PS3 and Xbox questions

definitely, its only some ps3 exclusives which look awesome, generally games perform and look better on xbox

This is a well know fact and anyone who disputes this can head over to lens of truth.
 
If you are a serious gamer, get an XBOX. It is the best pure-gaming console there is and has the best controller design as well.

If you game but want to use your console as a media-center as well, get a PS3. I have a laptop for work-related stuff etc and am not a serious gamer, therefore I bought a PS3.

not my review - just got it of the net and i personally agree with you on the controller issue. i myself have a ps3 only.

edit: ps. like to get an xbox just for forza 4 - looks amazing!

I'm leaning towards the xbox currently. Had the previous one and loved the Live experience. Plus it seems that my internet speed at home is too slow for PSN as its only 384k.

If I can get two more years of gaming out of a xbox I'd be more than happy. As long as they dont release a new console in a year.

I mostly play sports game and the main blockbuster games.

Does Gears play fine over a 384K line? How about Fifa?
 
I had a 384 line a few years back and it worked perfectly on my Live UK account. You won't be able to host games though because the uplink speed is too slow, but you will be able to join existing games and play just fine.

Re the controllers - I think that the position of the left thumb-stick on the PS3 controller is in a very awkward position. Since you will be using the left thumb-stick a lot, it takes some getting used to. On the Xbox the left thumb-stick is located exactly where your left thumb would be when you pick up the controller. And the rear triggers have a better feel and feedback than those on the PS3 IMO.
 
The current rumoured date for the new Xbox is 2013. I wouldnt worry too much about it - they will carry on making games for the old console probably 2-3 years after the new one comes out. Plus right now, loads of older titles are available cheaply. And the stability problems have been sorted out, it uses less power and is quieter, and you get a bigger hard drive (if you buy a hard drive). Same is true of the PS3 too.
 
@goofball really dude really ??? this is all over the internet and on mybroadband have a look around this has all been answered....
 
@Goofball, gears will play just fine as mweb have got local hosted servers from Gears that are gonne play just awesome, when i played in the beta it still played perfect on my back then 512 connection....

PS3 works well with media because it just quick and supports everything, xbox is just as well as one if you lazy people read and do a little research it works perfectly fine with me....although i just use my Wii with WiiMC to do my streaming its quick and simple UI
 
I don't know how a person can say that the PS3 controller is better than the Xbox's. It is one of the biggest reasons I don't use my PS3 that much as the controller is crap.

Same here - also much prefer the Xbox Controller - that said, I own a PS3 and it really is very good at doubling up as an media player. From a spouse perspective, 'cos it does not look like games console, it's accepted in the lounge (with a VCR style controller for managing navigation).

I think its a matter of personal preference. I prefer ps3's controller but that mainly cause i have been using playstations for a very long time, where as i have only been using my 360 since 09 and just for gears of war and halo.

Why?

Last I checked it was pretty horrible - unless you transcoded. Everyone laughed at me when I bought a dedicated media player - but they couldn't watch 20% of what I gave them and had a crappy GUI on top of it

It's actually worse than that. With the whole Cinavia DRM issue, most of what you download now is probably useless. It makes for a good Bluray player (but nothing better than what you can buy for less than R1000 anyway), but it's now below par for digital media.

I personally believe in having dedicated devices that do what they're supposed to do really well, rather than all-in-one devices that can kinda do a bit of everything reasonably.
