PS3 and Xbox questions

This is the age-old conflict which has been around since XBOX/PS2. It's completely subjective so one should try them both out before deciding which one feels right. Personally, I think that M$ had a good idea swapping the dpad with the left analogue stick - but apart from that the layout is pretty much a PS copy. Personally, I much prefer the PS3 controller and feel awkward using the M$ counterpart. Ergonomic preference, I guess :)
 
I have used both and being a PS1, PS2 and PS3 owner the Xbox controller is still much better.
 
Would i be able to "migrate"/ "move" my old UK Live profile and gamerpoints over to the RSA Xbox Live or will I lose those?

Sorry, i only found out Live was in SA now a few months ago when i got back from abroad.
 
For the guys who moved theirUk Live accountsto RSA: Was this easy and painless or is verybody still sticking with their UK accounts?

Keep your UK profile and create a new RSA one. The RSA marketplace is still quite bare compared to the US/UK ones.

Maybe I've just been lucky so far. I like the ability to FWD and RWD properly (something my admittedly old by now, MVIX, is bad at); the ability to time slice scene jumping with little thumbnail from 30sec to XX (not sure now) using the square button, the fact that the non-technos in the house only have to learn to use one interface and one remote (you have no idea how irritable people get with multiple remotes - this way there is only two - no "why are the 10,000 remotes to do the simplest things in this house - the TV and PS3).

XMB's not great but it is consistent for music, video and pictures.

I'm not really into downloading arcade games and avatar stuff.
Is there anyhting usefull that is missing on the RSA marketplace?
 
Only think useful missing is the media update to play .avi files, just make a UK and download that quick then you can use a RSA acc

Cool can do that. How do they not have that on the RSA marketplace??? Does'nt seem too smart of them.

PS. If you are on SA Live do you join local games easier when you just do a normal serach in the game or does it still mostly connect to overseas games?

Just make sure you got lots of sa peeps on your friends list, check forms and stuff. On some games you do join local lobbies through search sometimes tho. Has happened to me lots of times on mw2 where i get sa lobbies without joining one or being invited.

For me on blackops, on an SA live account, its always an international game. But I've built up a good friends list and there's normally enough okes to play locally. For my mates on UK/US accounts, its the same.
 
I like the advice that was given previously in that get what most of your friends have. I personally went with a PS3 cos at the time, it had a bigger HDD than 360, had built-in wifi and blu-ray player. Obviously with newer editions, most of that has been equalized.

Regarding the controllers, try both and see what you feel more comfortable with. I really believe it's each to their own.

But whatever you choose, I'm sure you will have many hours of enjoyment. You can't go wrong with either.
 
Bought the Xbox S 250 GB this morning from the new Makro store for R1999. A bargain i think.

Decided to stick with the Xbox as I've always been happy with the games on the old one and everybody agrees LIVE is much better than PSN...

Also bought the groupon voucher this morning that gives me R100 off any purchase from Take2 (Takealot). So my 12 month subscription will now cost R165 for the full 12 months of Xbox Live. Sweet....

Is there a flight simulator (like the Microsoft PC game) or what's a good flight game for PS3?

I have both.

Neither is particularly good as a media player and I'd only get one for that purpose if you really can't get something more useful like a basic media PC.

The Xbox controller is definitely better in all respects except the d-pad which is truly atrocious in any situation where accurately selecting a direction is important. It does beat the PS3 equivalent in situations like Fallout where you use it to select weapons (played Fallout on both). Removable batteries beat having a controller you have to plug in to charge.

I don't know which I'd pick if I could only buy one though.

I’ve decided to make this update, as one of the guys who posted a comment, had a clean and good review, thanks “The Third Party” your comment was absolutely great :

“Graphics PS3 > XBOX 360

The PS3 has a Blu-Ray player not found in the XBOX 360, thus PS3 games are released on Blu-Ray disc, and being that Blu-Ray is the most modern form of compact disc (CD), you dont even need personal opinion to decide the better console. Though through my own personal experience, the PS3 is better.
