PS3 Slim 120GB

$299 = R3799 how???

Even at the usual x10 rule, it should be around R3000. The fact that the rand is currently strong makes it even more annoying.

Inflated profit margins, since Sony does not distribute solely for its products in this country. Also mentioned in previous threads that maybe taxes played a role but they say it is not.

I think the problem with the PS3 is that it still doesn't have enough to get people away from the Xbox. With Uncharted 2 and GT I'm actually starting to look at prices, but I'm still not convinced that there will be more great games after that. Apart from those 2 games, there's nothing else that I want to play, that I can't also play on the 360. What else is coming later this year?

What's the cheapest PS3 you can buy now? Doesn't matter if it's the slim one.

Not trying to start a fight about 360 vs PS3, just giving my opinion.

spot on. the ps3 (slim) is a bit of a let down if you already have an xbox. the point is you should go with the console with the exclusives you want, if you want to buy a console.

That's if the xbox hasn't RRoD on you. With regards to exclusives, I think the exclusives in both camps sort of rule out decision making based on that. When I moved over from PC gaming to console gaming it was more for the console*.* exclusives like the later GTA:IV, Forza 2 (hopefuly GT5 soon) etc. They're both winners in different places, reliability in some, online communities in others.
 
luckily i havent had the RROD. i think my 2 year+ old elite is a zephyr. so probability could be high to get a RROD. i hope not. but in that case i would rather pay maestro a visit than follow up on a 3 year warrantee. or just get a new elite.

There are not much exclusive driving games for both the consoles. Forza for xbox and GT for PS3. The rest are out for both. FPS games are abundant on xbox & 3rd person action seems to be dominating the PS3.

I also enjoyed PC gaming until I moved onto the console BUT when it comes to FPS and RTS, I still prefer to play on the PC.

Haven't really tried any RTS games but as far as FPS go, the console exclusives get them right on the most part, even HL2: Orange Box got it very right but I found myself longing for a m&k when playing Oblivion on my Xbox (finished the game a couple of years ago on my PC) and the same applied when I played Fallout 3.

Production of the phat was discontinued, so soon you'll ONLY see the slim.

Got mine at Musica for R3999 plus 2 games. Other places have them for R3799. Don't go for the phat unless you specifically want to install another operating system, because it's quite a bit more (R4.5k for 80GB).

Actually if there is the phat on stock, you can pick an 80GB up for under R3k. Saw it at Pick n Pay for that price.

So there's a top tip... PS3 for almost R2k ;)

Yeah, its a gamers market now so whatever you get, you don't have to break your bank. Also 2nd hand gaming stores like ZAPs and Games Exchange make for some really cheap gaming. Can pick up PS3 games for under R200 and they have a policy that their 2nd games have no scratches on them. :cool:
 
Find a pick n pay selling it for R3k and then go game and say you can get it cheaper and they will match the price.

Actually, their policy is to beat the price by 10% of the difference
