If you remove multi platform games like Fallout 4 / Star Wars Battlefront / Assassin's Creed:Syndicate from the holiday line-up, what exactly are these "exclusives" that everyone is raving about on the PS4? Almost everything has been delayed way into 2016...

Xbox One got more and better exclusives out and coming out in the next few months than the PS4, so not sure why everyone is so easily saying "PS4 for games, Xbox for everything else" when Xbox One is facerolling the PS4 with exclusives right now...

Xbox One got (just to name a few) Forza 6, Halo 5 and Rise of the Tombraider all coming out in the next month (Forza 6 being out already). That is like one gigantic exclusive per month. Tombraider you will only see on the PS4 like in June next year or something crazy last i checked.

Anyhow the "everything else" part with Xbox One, if you remotely got Windows 10 devices lying around the house, the integration with your Xbox One is really cool. Streaming your PC -> to your TV and streaming games from your Xbox -> Laptop is pretty nifty features. I can for example, play Xbox One games on my Windows tablet and project my tablet screen to my TV (without needing Chromecast/Miracast) to display movies/content etc.

I would go PS4.

Games are marginally less violent - XBOX is american kill kill kill BS, whereas the PS4 has slightly more thinking with the kill kill kill stuff.
The second plus is that you can find PS4 games in Cash Converters / Crusaders relatively easily, but barely any Xbox One games.

I regularly buy PS4 games for R300 odd in Cape Town (when I'm in the country) at the various s/hand places. Beats buying new!

Huh? What games are these "american kill kill BS" ? You do know Call of Duty franchise are now a time-exclusive on the PS4....

Sony and Activision teamed up to announce that PS4 will be getting Black Ops 3 DLC before Xbox One, which turns the tables. Previously, the publisher had a partnership with Microsoft to provide exclusive content for its gaming system.

THAT is "american kill kill BS" right there, and it's on the PS4 first...

Uncharted, left behind, Little big planet, God of war, killzone, driveclub, bloodbourn, Destiny, infamous, lots.

Xbox has gears of war, halo, forza. Did I miss any? :p

I'll probably buy an Xbox One when I need to buy a current gen console, which I expect to be when the Red Dead Redemption sequel releases as a console exclusive.

- Xbox Live Gold is cheaper than Playstation Plus
- You can buy XB1 games on G2A
- Xbox Live games are better priced than PSN games
- You can stream XB1 games to a PC
- I didn't care much for any of the Playstation exclusive games last gen, except for Heavy Rain

Err, those are last gen games, Uncharted and God of War are not even PS4 games (not yet) , they are PS3 games. Remastered editions does not count here, because if all you want is God of War/Uncharted/Infamous, then you better get a PS3 instead (and then backwards compatibility is starting to rear its head here, something the XB1 at least have). Games like Destiny is not exclusive anyway (not anymore).

And yes i only named the ones that are coming out now, there are Fable Legends / Quantum Break / Scalebound / Crackdown etc etc

This doesn't have to turn into another fanboy thread. @Op trust me from personal experience both are great. I just think that for your needs, the XB1 is the better choice since you already have a 360 library, most of which should be backwards compatible soon, and if you're inclined then the kinect will always be better for the kids than the PS camera.

Both have great exclusives that are either out already or still to come so this is a moot point. Cross-plat games are a bit better on PS4 but I honestly can't tell the difference during gameplay...

Err, most of the games I mentioned have a sequel out in current gen already, and the remasters are not just copy paste from last gen. Why would anyone buy a last gen console these days? That is one are the Xbox is better though, even if they're copy paste from last gen, backwards compatibility is a huge plus because you don't have to repurchase titles.
Still, everyone knows PlayStation has better exclusives catalogue.

Reading comprehension issues? I didn't claim there was none, I claimed that there was less.

XBOX is american kill kill kill BS, whereas the PS4 has slightly more thinking with the kill kill kill stuff.

Xbox games are mostly death and destruction. Violence is forefront in pretty much all XBOX games. FPS kill murder death.
This is likely due to the army influence. War, what is it good for? Recruiting apparently.

PS4 also has its fair share as they cater to the US market, but the Japanese side does add more cerebral stuff, other than plain old kill kill kill training. Thinking vs manslaughter.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I had kids I'd want them exposed to the violence is ok, but nipples are teh evil thought process that murica epitomises.

The wii u may be criticised as being a kiddie's unit, but it for the most part steers away from murder death, and towards creativity and bonding.

Its not just myself that thinks this - http://www.smosh.com/smosh-pit/arti...japanese-video-games-and-american-video-games
"Japanese video games often deal with themes related to the horrible cost of war, the danger of authority, and the value of relationships in times of crisis. Video Games in the United States generally deal with these issues in the following way: WAR IS AWESOME, AUTHORITY HAS COOL GUNS BE A MARINE, and if you have relationships: KILL THEM."

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/4780423/n...nce-games/t/video-games-get-lost-translation/
"Japanese gamers generally prefer fantasy, strategy, and role-playing games, while U.S. gamers prefer crime, shooters, and sports. Even when it comes to fighting games, U.S. tastes have been more violent, historically speaking.
"Violent games are not so popular in Japan," said Namco managing director, Keiji Tanaka. "[They are] more popular in the U.S. market.""

Don't forget about Until Dawn.

Why does Sony do it then?

Because the want want money. You're living I a dream world if you think all games will be released for backwards compatibility. The publishers will rather sell you a remaster.

Whatever he buys, he will always wonder what it's like on the other side of the fence....unless he buys both :)

Only going to buy one this year.

Another factor would also be who is going to offer the best bundles coming the end of the year. I'll definitely consider something with two controllers and a couple of nice games thrown in.

Ps4 has a price drop coming and Xbox has just done like 5 different bundles, you can google that.

True this.
I already have a decent PC,and a ps4 so to go drop 5k on a xbone for fable, gears, halo is pretty steep! *cry* maybe one day.

That's the thing. The backward compatibility is a bit of a cheat. The game needs to be ported with permission from the developer. When you insert the disc, the ported version is downloaded , but you still need the disc for validation. The launch list of compatible games is quite small, but I'm sure it will grow over time. Sony could have done the same thing but didn't, they are missing a huge opportunity.

Yeah but bear in mind many of the XBL games are linked to your account and already XO compatible, not just backwards compatible.

So my choice would be heavily influenced by what I already own.

A year ago I would have just said ps4 no questions. Now it's a lot harder.
