PS4 vs Xbox One

Ask him to post the list PSN has gotten

Traitor! And I was going to lay down some Trey Songz quality R&B choruses on your rap album too! :p

It's crap on the PS4 too but the games you get for the Vita are surprisingly half-way decent.

Yes and FPSs? Fighting Games? Sports games? Other genres? You can play the majority of PC games with online multiplayer for free. Paying for a Wow subscription only impacts WoW players, that fee isn't foisted on everyone else.

i'm not familiar with all those types of games, but how many of them run microtrasctions? someone has to support the cost of the servers to allow for cross multiplayer games.

it costs MS and Sony to run the chat servers and all the other types of servers that support the MS Live and PS+ experience. the players demand cheap games, so the costs need to be recovered some how.

The amount of down time Live has had can be counted on one hand in ten years. Compared to servers run for free where there is no sla to really get them up and running again. R490 a year is a small price really.

No there are no micro transactions.

For blockbuster titles the developer may have their own server but a lot of the time games (even on console) use a client/server system with one player hosting or a p2p system. Most games don't need to be persistent like MMOs so a lot of the time you aren't playing on some "main server". You're playing a game hosted by another player. These "costs" as you put them come from Sony and MS trying to control and centralise everything, and even then many console games still have the game hosted by players themselves.

I've never had any "downtime" on PC. Ever. As long as there is someone hosting a game there is a "server" running. That's how PC online gaming stays free for the most part, it could be the same on consoles but it's an easy way for Sony and MS to make more money.

I think you're greatly underestimating the value to hosted servers. Not being dependent on persons home line make things much, much better. You get lower pings as well. That's why even Valve hosted the most popular custom maps in Dota2.

The monthly fee that Microsoft and Sony ask for really isn't that much compared to the value they provide.

Yeah but that's just it. A lot of the time you aren't even playing on dedicated servers (especially on Playstation). I was explaining how these "costs" for servers are a non-issue most of the time.

I'd rather they keep their BS games to themselves.

On which games aren't you playing on hosted servers?

That only means that Microsoft offers developers the option to use their Azure servers. Some developers don't and implement their own methods for online play, whether it be their own dedicated servers or otherwise.

pc or console?

All of them AFAIK. Not necessarily a bad thing for 2-player games but you'll always get someone complaining about it.

To be fair here is a list of the PS4 "free" games. Most are just as bad as the Xbox One. Though the PSN store prices are higher the specials they offer are pretty reasonable. I got BF4 and Hardline in a bundle for R299.

I wonder what the chances are that Microsoft will replace the current Xbox with a newer speedier model soon? These are taking a lot of flak about their lower resolutions vs PS4 and I'm sure this is costing them a lot of possible sales.

Surely they can bring out a faster model that will still be compatible with current XB1 library? Improve stuff like RAM speed etc.

They could, but they won't, that's not how the console world operates
