PS5

As others have said. Unless we see the Americans get a price increase fully inline with tariffs and inflation.

I will never buy PS again.

Looks like Hogwarts Legacy is available for download. Will give it a go. Always wanted to play it but never got a chance.

ye nerds, I need help as I never had access to such video games while growing up.

Is PS5 (or equivalent) advisable as a gift to a 8 year old boy ? Any drawbacks* ? Did you regret giving it to your kids/playing yourself too early ?

*Time restriction is not an issue. He generally abides by limits on TV time, which is just 30 minutes a day (or 1-2 hours if we watch science/sports videos together on weekends) but my worry is that games would be more addictive than standard TV.

I do not think there is a catch-all blanket rule. For me this is something that needs to be taken case by case. Only you as a parent can make that choice.

What I can answer is: Are games addictive? Yes. Developers spend millions to tap into said addiction to monetize it.

I got my plat for it - thoroughly enjoyable as you hunt for those trophies, but I would never touch it again, got boring, and I was one of those that paid 1.3k for it, demmit 😂

Get that for him and watch how he will scream for longer than 30 minutes, because that amount of time goes by in an absolute flash..
My 7-year-old girlypants will sit for hours on Minecraft, and I let her as she is partaking in both architectural skills, and her hand eye coordination has improved exponentially, helping with her piano and Taekwondo activities.

I’m really enjoying GoW. The mechanics around the axe are epic. Storyline is decent too.
I personally don't like Kratos' move to Norse mythology, he really didn't need to expand his religious horizons - Kratos is Greek and that's where it should have ended.
That said, I did finish both so that I was able to give the benefit of the doubt and not post this answer like a blank, uninformed statement.

Yoh - hours ? I suppose everything comes with its pros & cons if it is also helping your girl with other activities.

For the most part, gaming is a break from the mundane, from the troubles of real life- well, for me at least, and I'm sure many others share the same sentiment. We don't live in a world where it is safe to let your child play in the streets anymore, which is sad, because they're missing out on the fun we used to have -life skills were honed outside of one's yard, now there's human trafficking and robberies by the unwanted "foot traffic" that wander our streets, looking for their next score..
Anyway, I digress - gaming is a fantastic tool to teach problem-solving skills and tap into their imagination, and that leads to a sense of accomplishment for the most part. I personally don't just delve into every single game, I play one out until it's finished, then move onto the next one, because each game (unless it's part of a series) requires you to adapt to what the developers had in mind when they created it.
In line with this sentiment, I am an avid Darksouls fan, the only one I don't have my plat for is 3, but I've spent so many hundreds of hours on the series that I'm taking a huge break from it in lieu of other fantastic genres and titles - I've just finished arcade paradise ( thoroughly addictive..), and I'm a couple hours into Robocop now, a change in scenery was welcome.

Now, a question from my side - who is playing that Digimon that is free this month? I love the whole "Pokemon" kind of character building up, but the last Digimon game I played on PS1, and my mundane liddle creature just pooped all over the place, evolved into a really cool lion, then proceeded to die within 2 hours...
